Default 7 week old sucking thumb - Y/N?

My 7 week old DS2 has started sucking his thumb/fingers at times and I'm confused about how to deal with it. On one hand, sometimes he can use it to self-soothe and fall asleep as well as get back to sleep if he wakes but this is only sometimes. The other times it seems like its a real distraction for him as he'll spend AGES sucking and groaning/grunting but not falling asleep. So I'm unsure of whether to keep his arms swaddled or start letting his arm out so he can get used to having access to his hands. I vaguely recall DS1 doing something similar but I can't remember how it all worked out.

    Any thoughts?
    TIA

Let him suck it. If he is doing it in bed and falling asleep eventually it's still self settling and saves you having to get up to pop a dummy back in.

Both of mine were thumb/finger suckers as babies. They both outgrew it and we had no probs with it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a problem with the thumb sucking per se, just that it seems to sometimes actually keep him awake for ages and then he gets overtired and cranky

Plus he's super noisy while doing it!
