OP I've just gone onto the online calculators because I couldn't believe you were receiving such a low amount given your husband can't be earning much more than $30k a year if $270 is almost half his weekly wage.

You should be entitled to around $350 PPP and over $400 FTB a fortnight.

That would take your IN THE HAND income to the equivalent of a family earning $60k gross (so approx $49k net).

I assume your husband's income fluctuates a bit, but when you look at it from this perspective it's not quite so bad on Centrelink's part.

    Yep. This is me too.
    I think you're incorrect.

I don't think it is fair to take a stab at single parents. It's just as hard, if not harder as there isn't that option of 2 incomes when you are on your own. I know my earning potential was much greater and dependence on welfare was much lower when partnered.

Is there any reason you aren't getting an exemption or claiming child support? I would look at addressing this issue to increase the amount you receive per fn.

So would be rather hard to find work to fit around his shifts & I don't have a licence
Or family /friends to watch the kids either

I was talking about my parenting payment not family tax I get $400 n something family tax inc rent assist & all of that goes to paying utilities & groceries

My kids are 7 & 2 and cause I don't have a child support exemption for DS I get a reduced rate of family tax benefit

We don't have home phone we don't have Internet & DP isn't buying lunches for work anymore & we both smoke rollies $18 week each. Yes I know we could quit smoking & that would give us extra but honestly I'd rather DP smoke than deal with his temper when he's not smoking.

I don't remember saying I was getting $1000 end of the month in another thread correct me if I'm wrong though cause I haven't gotten it

DP returned to work from being on compo & was getting $670 week before tax on compo & that entitled me to $114 fortnight parenting.
Now he's back at work n having to work over time just to get us by. He's on $18 hr. ATM n working 40hrs a week so $680 after tax but the stupid thing is that what in entitled to is based on before tax which we don't get ????
But with rent being $270 & then his debt & car insurance we are left with bugger all to pay for fuel etc.

yes I know it's not the governments fault that DP has debt but it gets me that a family of 4 is expected to get my on bugger all yet if I was a single parent I'd be on almost as much as we both get combined without the extra mouth to feed using elec etc.

Cutting the Foxtel I don't want really it's my $10 per week n the only thing I get for myself. I go without a heck of alot that I would like & see Foxtel as my treat

In the process of applying for carers allowance for DS again but dunno if it will get approved hoping it does.

Have started making my own cleaning products. Kids craft ,cooking from scratch kids treats like cup cakes etc & starting to meal plan n just feel like I'm trying to save as much as I can & find ways to cut expenses n just feel like I'm getting nowhere fast.
    So just clarify...

    Income:
    Your DP gets $1360pf
You get $400ish in tax benefit
    So a total of $1760 a fortnight.

Out goings (pf) that you have mentioned:
    Rent: $540
    Food: $120
    Foxtel: $20
    Cigarettes: $72
    Total: $752 pf

Remainder for bills, fuel, medication, debt: $1008, or $504 per week.

    Am I missing anything?

With dp income and family assistance, you are earning pretty good money fortnightly.

I don't think you should wish to be single just for more money. I don't think it works as well as you paint it.

And just to add a single parent with 2 kids would be on about $1200/fn if they were to receive maximum benefits. So they definitely aren't any better off despite not having an extra mouth to feed.

My only suggestion is for your DH or yourself to get a job (bar, café, shop etc) where they will pay you cash.

    Come on guys.

The op came in for a vent. We are entitled to a vent weather we are on 100 a week or a million dollars a week.

Really the op doesn't need to justify to us what she choose to spend their money on.

She hasn't asked us for any money, just a place to vent.
