I agree with Sassy, so what if it is unnatural? And who is the person who decides that it is unnatural? If it is unnatural, why does that mean that gay people shouldn't get married? What about chemical burns victims or people disfigured in an accident, should they not legally allowed to be married too.

What does unnatural even mean when it comes to now? We are all unnatural, doing unnatural things every single day.

But it is still really offensive to refer to people as being unnatural. We are all people, we are all equal. Time the laws reflected that.

Not occurring in nature; artificial is the most relevant definition to this conversation.

If we were the only species in which homosexuality occurred then it might be different. But we aren't. There are hundreds.

I think part of the problem is people forget that at the end of the day, we are animals. Not in an insulting way, in a fact of life way.

Where are you getting your definitions?
    . Adjective
Contrary to the ordinary course of nature; abnormal.
    Not existing in nature; artificial.

In the ordinary course of nature, there are Gay people and animals who have same sex relationships.

    Obviously not artificial.

    I can't believe it's even a discussion.

Yep, in terms of dictionary definitions - homosexuality is definitely not unnatural. Guess it's back to the drawing board to find another equally silly reason why gay marriage shouldn't be legal.

It would definitely hurt my feelings if somebody referred to myself or my relationship as unnatural. It would make me feel like I must be abnormal or living my life wrong based on something I cannot help.

'Unnatural' is still a very offensive term whether you find something technically correct about it or not. I wouldn't want my children being called 'unnatural' for being IVF bubs. It's just mean.

    The thing about racism and homophobia is that white people or straight people shouldn't be deciding what is or is not racist/homophobic. You actually need to ask a person of a different race or a gay person. Australians are so very bad at this. eg, the aftermath of the blackface skit on hey hey it's Saturday;

    Vimeo.com/7617325

Being called 'unnatural' for being gay is very hurtful and ostracizing. How would a young person feel being called that at a time when they're struggling for acceptance and petrified of coming out to their family and friends?

Now I'm older and wiser it's less offensive because I realize that the person doing the name calling often has other outdated and extreme views, eg, the denial of evolution. But that's an aside, it's still deeply offensive and damaging to gay people to be called 'unnatural'.

And Dave, I'm sorry, you may be able to win in a 'scripture battle' but doesn't mean every other Christian that disagrees with you about this is wrong or not 'real Christians.

ETA: I also wonder how much respect you would hold for a person during the civil rights era if they had told you they didn't support civil rights and integration and would refrain from voting.

There is a bucket load of variety depending on the dictionary consulted. Regardless it is clear there is no consensus that unnatural=not occurring in nature.

I agree with pp though. It doesn't matter what the defintion is can/is often thrown around at gay people in a negative light.
