I guess it depends how far you want to go in splitting hairs. Where do you draw the line of judging

    is it having a view

is it treating someone badly because of your view

then you would have to ask what is bad judging and good judging

Is it bad to have a view that you generally keep to yourself but only share if the subject is bought up

At no time have I attempted to insult anyone ... some have been insulted by my view and for that I am sorry ... it was not my intention

I guess every single one of us judges to some extent, when I say I do not judge I mean to the point of walking around saying you are bad or you are good or you should be doing this or that

i have shared my view and why i have that view

That's something I will agree with you on. Everyone judges, all the time. That's how opinions are formed.

But in this case, having an opinion that same sex attracted people shouldn't marry DOES mean that they are treated badly. They are treated as lesser human being, with lesser rights. It may not be your specific opinion that's stopping the law from changing, but it's opinions like yours, held by powerful people in our country that stops them from changing, because they pander to people who hold those views as well. People like you.

    BIG HUG

we finally agree on something Ok we have probably agreed on a few things already. It is not my decision to make with respect to same sex marriage and I would refrain from voting so it is completely out of my hands. So taking this issue out of the equation I would not be one to treat a same sex couple with less respect than a heterosexual couple.

I had a gay guy starting a business near me and did everything I could to help him make a go of his business. I was able to see past my personal views of homosexuality and assist him even though there was a heterosexual couple over the road starting the same business.

I dont know what your personal situation is but am assuming you are in a same sex relationship. If I read all the comments it would no doubt be more obvious to me. I have not made it my goal to know who is bi, hetro or gay cause it does not really matter to me. You would have just as much chance of getting a job for me as the next person, maybe more. I can see you are passionate about what you believe in and as such if you were passionate about my business you would be an asset.

If it went to a referendum, you'd have to vote unless you have electoral exemption. If it came to that, then what?

FTR I'm married to a man. I renounced my catholic religion years ago and DH is a staunch atheist. To make it worse, we married in a church, mostly because I wanted to make my grandmother happy but also because it made for nice photos. In hindsight, I wouldn't make the same decision. I would have had a civil ceremony because the Catholic Church makes me sick to my stomach. But that's another thread ;-)

What a shame Asherah [The consort, or wife of Yahweh] was not included in the Bible stories - or should I say, what a shame she was written out.

..It would have been nice to have a 'female influence' in the decisions surrounding marriage/relationships etc.

Not sure why you think this is relevant, do you think more women support same sex marriage?

Why do I think it is relevant that a goddess was written out of the bible?

and yes, I do think the bible is very male dominated and the rules laid down in it were to serve a patriarchal time in history.

I think if things like fertility were worshipped (like they were with the pantheon that existed before the Christian tradition took off) ...rather than seen as a 'curse' like it is in the bible, yep things would be different today.
If 'sexuality' was the focus rather than 'breeding' or 'ownership' - yes, I think things would be different today.

I get where you're going with this but its totally off topic regarding same sex marriages.

ETA: Sorry, in my opinion, because I know people who support same sex marriage who have no religion, hence no bearing on them whether a goddess may or may not be in the bible. And I would hazard a guess that the number of males and females who oppose same sex marriages and i can't see how whether a goddess being in the bible could influence this. On another note, my daughter has some great books about strong women in the bible
