With the given view that seems to prevail here it means that my view is wrong and harsh and equates with racism.

Therefore Christian religion should be banned as should any other religion that does not support samE sex marriage.

If someone up holds bible values the. They must be stupid prejudice idiots.

To say that there should be same sex marriage is to say the bible is wrong, god is wrong. Or maybe it is simply that those who want to marry same sex do not believe the bible or only believe parts of it

To say my view wrong is to say to believe in god and the bible is wrong. Then it not only becomes an issue of human rights as some say but a case of religious vilification.

I have my views. I don't decide on the law and will not vote for or against, but I am bad to hold my view by so many on this thread.

As I said ... I should never have posted here. There are many I am sure who are not for but refrain from stating such because they still like you and want to be friends. You who are strongly for. I like you and still want to be friends but just happen to be fool enough to share my view and be judged for it.

I don't really understand why people have a problem with it......I 100% support gay marriage as I have numerous family members and friends that are missing out.

I think if you had originally said that you do not support it due to your religion I definitely wouldn't argue with you.

I do not believe in god or the bible so obviously I think it's wrong but I now understand why you are against it.

Considering the Bible was written by men who wanted to rule human beings through the fear of their immortal soul (and it worked), I believe humans are wrong. God is God. God made everyone the way they're supposed to be, so telling people homosexuality isn't natural is actually saying God is wrong, rather than holding the view that the Bible is wrong says it. The Bible is wrong and is fallible as it was written by human beings.

And unless people actually live according to the Bible 100% I don't believe they should be allowed to use their religion as a reason to dislike homosexuality. It just becomes a fluffy blanket for them to hide behind when they go "HAH! Nope. No equal rights for you. My God says so!" And then claim religious vilification if people call them on their crap.

Just love those folks who pick and choose from their bibles and hide behind god to justify their personal prejudices.

Yes I support it. I don't see a good enough reason to make me think they shouldn't.

Do you also slay your first born child when they talk out of turn? Do you refuse to eat shell fish? Do you wear poly blend clothes? All examples of things stated in the bible that we ignore. Why the cherry picking? If one is wrong, surely all are wrong?

Second, if you're a Christian, then your rules are the Ten Commandments of Jesus. Not one of those alludes to homosexuality at all.

    ImageUploadedByThe Bub Hub1378870574.885558.jpg

Thirdly, I can categorically state that no, none of my friends secretly are anti same sex marriage, in fact many of them are more active than I am in crusading for it. You think people can't tell how you feel about it but believe me, they can. Your stepdaughter can. When you're so aware of scrutiny, you can smell it a mile away even if it's being hidden by a jolly demeanour.

Fourthly, there are plenty of Christian churches that support gay marriage, that have gay priests and preachers. Religion is an institution, faith is personal and hiding behind organised religion as an excuse for prejudice is cowardly.

And fifth, yes I see your view as akin to be anti interracial marriage. You are against something that doesn't hurt you because of your own fragile sensibilities. Let's call a spade a spade shall we?

You may be new, you may be friendly to everyone but it doesn't give you or anyone a free pass to have 'opinions' without being questioned about them.

Where has anyone said or implied that the Christian religion (or any other religion) should be banned? No where, no one is saying that or implying it. (And for the record I am one of the most vocal anti-theists on this forum). What we are saying is that if you are going to hold the Bible as a reason for not supporting marriage equality then it simply does not hold up to scrutiny. Nor does believing homosexuality is 'not normal/natural' or any of the other arguments that have been put forward as reasons for not supporting marriage equality.

The bible is a collection of stories handed down by mostly illiterate nomads and only written hundreds and in some case thousands of years after the alleged 'facts' by many people. It has then been translated over and over again to what we have today. Australia is a secular democracy. We do not base our ethics/laws on the bible. If we did we would have no issue with infantcide, rape, incest, slavery etc. Humans are very capable of establishing ethics in the absence of any religion. The way we weed out the parts of the bible that are no longer considered relevant or applicable to our society is we apply secular ethics, science etc.

Anyway, I thought you said you didn't practice religion? If you are using religion as a reason to not support marriage equality then what are your opinions on atheists or people of non-Christian religions getting married?

ETA: If God is opposed to marriage equality then shouldn't s/he get to judge and not us mere mortals?
