Hmmm, I think it would upset me. Mainly because dh has always, in the 8 years we have been together, made a BIG deal out of my bday. I didn't really used to celebrate it that much, but dh views these things differently to me. It would upset me because it would be so out of character for him.

I do not think it odd for other relationships though.

Given your scenario (that he rarely does things for himself anyway etc) I would be okay with it. Not happy, but accepting of it and definitely not upset. In saying that I don't think DH would choose to go... I would have to push him into it if it was a band he really liked and the opportunity may not come around again for a long time etc

I'd be fine with it as I know he would be OK if the tables were turned.

I'd be fine with it. Actually I'm sure we've done it before. We are both fairly independent people, and birthdays aren't a big deal in our house. I went out to see the stage show Chicago on DD's second birthday!

ETA: everyone in our house goes to work/school/daycare as usual on their birthdays.

I would not be ok with that. I am a massive birthday diva.

    Same.

In fact if it was a band my hubby loved I'd probably suggest he go.

I would be happy for my DH to go, but would hope that my birthday was given its due acknowledgement on another day/night.

I would be fine with it. I like to make allowances for DH so I don't feel guilty when he has to make allowances for me.
DH is out all day of DD2 6th birthday in 2 weeks for a mountain bike race. While it sucks the world won't end and we will still be a happy family.
