Default Do you let your kids play in sandpits?

Just saw a post on Facebook where the mother doesn't let her kids play in the sand pit.

DD lives in the sandpit at child care but given the area i live in, public places or playgrounds can be pretty gross so i do try to avoid them.

In our area the whole area is like giant sandpits with the playground on top. Sux that people tend to use these places as urinals.

Not in public parks as I have heard that they are used by drug takers to dispose needles (no matter how good an area you live in) - that info was from a police friend. At home, Childcare and friends homes, yes I do it is very good for tactile skills.

I don't think I have ever seen a sandpit at a playground. But we have a sandpit at home, the kids play in sandpits at other peoples houses, and play in the sand at the beach which is like one big sandpit I guess.
