Default Ipswich General vs. St Andrews in Ipswich

    Hi all.

Just weighing up options between the two hospital's in Ipswich.

Ipswich General or St Andrew's. Depending on if i fall this month or later.... My full health insurance kicks in as little as 2 weeks before i would be due. (Or later if i do not conceive soon)

I have heard very good things about both hospitals. and have read the thread about IGH as well.

    anyone have any more insight?

Particularly chances of getting a private room ...

and the process of having a private obstetrician... yaddy yadda ...

and services provided. Particularly lactation consultants?? I'm used to the food...

    Thanks guys :-)

    any experiences would be helpful!

I can't help with st Andrews but I had dd at Ipswich general. The birthing suites are amazing (i was very upset when I had to have a csection and didn't get to use one!)
Not sure if its different as a private patient but I had a double room but theyve also got quad share which would be awful. The midwives were hit and miss, some I didn't particularly like but the good ones definitely made up for the bad ones. Ipswich hospital don't have lactation consultants. The midwives offer their help, again some are better than others. The health clinic on bell street has a lactation clinic on Mon, wed, Fri mornings and the consultants there are absolute saviours.

Sorry i cant help with either but Please just double check your phi policy if bub comes early.
Mine will not cover you and ( of course they would to get extra $$) recommend that you give at least a. 6-8 week buffer.

    Thanks guys... :-) :-)

Just adding all the info to the plan. I don't think i would mind having at IGH if private cover doesn't come through, just don't want to be caught thinking "private" and then last minute having to go public...

Anyone know what the lactation services are at St Andrews??
