Sorry to be rude, shakes have their place for those that need to drop weight for things such as operations. However, really for long term weight loss and learning about portion sizes, nutrition, snacks etc I don't think they are ideal. Sounds like PP are on the right track. It is about a combination of exercise and frequent healthy eating. I agree with the swapping especially if you are just starting out. If you have soft drinks or (non fresh) juice swap this for water, swap white bread at lunch for a rye bread wrap, or rye cruskits, chocolate is ok for you in moderation and if it 70% and over cocoa. I just go for low carb high protein and as clean as I can without being anal. It really is about healthy choices, portion control, and moderation. Don't deny yourself of something as then you may binge....(says the girl who never eats carbs and then last night for dinner had a white bread chip sandwich!!)

I wasn't referring to anything you said when I mentioned shakes. Just the ones above! I was just giving some advice from my own experience.

I am overweight for the first time in my life. I eat ok and was regularly walking. 3 months ago I bought an app called 5k runner. I've never run in my life and the first time I took a phone in case I needed to call an ambulance! I've now lost 7kg, I can't believe how fast I'm losing weight. It's only half an hour 3 times a week and my run is more a shuffle. It makes me feel so good I have been running extra days. I just run close to the house up and down the footpath as my 13yo doesn't like me to go too far away. I have got 3 other friends using it now. Best $3 I've spent this year.
