Default Gender Scan: why so different?

As the topic suggests - why is a gender scan a gender scan? is it just because they concentrate on that aspect alone or is it different to say a Morph scan?

Different I think. I've always had the morph scan & finding out the gender has been an optional bonus.

Different. A morph scan is to check the bub over completely and sometimes you can find out the sex.

We had a separate gender scan when I was pregnant with DS3 because I was impatient and wanted to know the sex asap.

Yup get that they are separate bookings or separate scans but so they use different equipment or techniques etc to find out?

Nope, its just that a gender scan solely focusus on gender, and is not a diagnostic scan.

Where I had my gender scan was a specialist place where you could take your whole family to watch the scan. About the only special thing I had to do was get on the ground and crawl around a bit to try and move bub for a better position and view lol.

Haha did you do that in front of your family!! Mental images hehe. I had my morph scan today and have to go back tomorrow as bub was in an awkward position. Couldn't see sex but more importantly couldn't get a good profile head shot or a good shot of the heart. We tried toilet x 2 times, touching my toes, eating sugary stuff, going for a walk, jiggling... Must be a boy being so stubborn :P

I also believe at a "gender scan" they will not tell you if something is medically wrong with the baby. They will tell you to go somewhere else for another scan

Lol I only took my DH and one of my sons with me (other was at his first day of school) so it wasnt so bad.

You could be right on the boy part, mine was stubborn and low and behold he was boy #3

You can generally find out the sex at the 20 week scan if the sonographer gets a decent look and feels comfortable telling... some prefer not to disclose because of the margin of error
