    Default Tropical getaway

So DH's birthday is New Year's Eve so I suggested this year we take off just after Christmas and spend the week and New Years away at some little beach town or island somewhere, we don't want to spend a fortune on accommodation no more then $1700 so where does everyone suggest is a nice coastal place in Queensland with family friendly accommodation?

They always have cheap flight specials to Hamilton Island.

    Other suggestions..
    mooloolabah.
    Arlie Beach.
    Fraser Island
    Daydream Island
    Noosa
    Heron Island
    1770
    Tweed Heads
    Northern NSW is also nice

Subbing as im desperate for a beach holiday . Hamilton island can be expensive accommodation wise. Mil recently had a holiday up to airlie beach. They did a whole heap of day tours to the islands so got the island feel without island prices

I definitely vote airlie beach. Dh and I stayed in an apartment there. Right on the water, could walk along the cycle track into town for dinner or go fishing and cook your catch for dinner lots of day trips to do.

    Airlie beach for sure..
We use to live there. AMAZING. HEAVEN ON EARTH. There are so many things to do.

Definitely do day trips to the islands as pp said you save a fortune

There are some amazing snorkeling cruises that take you are to different islands and of course white haven they also include lunch etc

So many different activities and they hve a beautiful lagoon in the center of town im sure you've seen/will see

And you have the beaches in airlie but you also have the rainforests not far and there are some beautiful waterfalls and walking tracks.

Ohhhhh I dream of moving back (in the city for work and study.)

If I'm honest, I don't rate airlie beach. I holidayed there years ago and by the end of the week I was bored. We'd seen the beach, we'd eaten out, and spent a bomb on day tours. The beach in town isn't really great, and you can't swim in it. We've now moved and live within driving distance to airlie and often do day trips, but unless you're doing a day trip (which you won't find under $100pp) there isn't much to do in the town itself. Just my opinion though of course.

I've liked 1770/Agnes water, but again, not much to do.

LOVE Bargara outside of bundaberg, a gorgeous little town.

Or the Sunshine Coast, mooloolaba would be my pick.

For your $1700 I would to Pottsville (northern nsw). Sweet quiet beachside little village, great fish and chips, lots to do within an easy drive (Byron Bay etc), nice accomodation that is well priced.
