I'm not saying what they did is right. I am merely saying I know a lot of places are like that. I work in a similar industry and we have a similar policy. Especially when so many different people have access to the vehicle

I agree with babycake, definitely call and speak with the service manager.
We have two cars that we get serviced every six months and I have never had to sign any kind I'd waiver for my personal items.
When you call, make sure you mention that you'll have to file a police report for insurance purposes. They might be a little more helpful then.
Also, I hope you get it back but even if you don't, I think letting the dealership know they have a thief on staff is the right thing to do. They can't be too bright to risk their job for an iPod
    Hope you get it back!

I'm not sure though, that a waiver like that is legally binding? It's kind of like the signs in retail shops saying you can only exchange not get a refund. Just bc it's stuck to the wall doesn't mean legally it's true. They just rely on people not knowing their rights or not wanting to cause waves to hoodwink customers. Seems a pretty convenient clause that allows them to steal out of people's cars that are paying their wages. I know you aren't condoning it Groovie, but that is a pretty crappy rule.

Plus it would be different if it was a public car Park or something, understandable. But when I hand my keys over to them with trust I expect it to be honoured.

Spoke to them today. They had to remove the glove box to change a filter so it could have fallen out. There was noone there from service so they are calling me on Monday.

I hope that gives the workers enough time to 'find' it. If not I don't know where to go from there.

I will never see it or the money again and that really sucks.

They denied it if course. They said the workers would lose their job if they stole, not much incentive to own up to it. So making a formal complaint with them, reporting it to the police and advising them we will no longer do business with them. Ive also got admins on local buy swap sell pages keeping an eye out for it on there in case they are stupid enough to sell it. Word of mouth is also powerful in a small town.

But here i an without my ipod

Oh no. I expect they'll be keeping a pretty close eye on people for a while.

I hope it does 'magically' turn up for you though. What a cr@ppy situation!
