    Default TTC & Crohn's disease

Hi there, Just wondering if anybody has had any trouble conceiving and suffering with Crohn's Disease? I have been diagnosed with Crohn's in the last couple months and i'm medication for it. We aren't TTC right now but I would like another baby sometime in the next couple of years, just worried that this might affect things in some way? I know I can't be on this medication whilst ttc but I don't see my specialist until October so thought i'd ask..Thanks!

I have crohn's disease, had trouble ttc but that was because of a thyroid problem I had too. Was taking medication for both but stopped once becoming pregnant. My doctor said that my crohn's medication (sulfasalazine) was safe to take while pregnant but decided to stop until the second trimester, had to start again before second trimester as I got really sick! Started taking just one pill per day during my pregnancy and it hasn't effected my DS at all.

    Hope this helps

Hi I had a couple of very early miscarriages that 'may' have been linked to my crohns. But apparently if you are in remission (which I wasn't) whilst TTC then you shouldn't have any issues. FTR I fell pregnant with DD 3 cycles after last miscarriage and suffered terribly with crohns all pregnancy and she is perfectly healthy
Oh and also my ob recommended that I take folate only tablets instead of pre preg vitamins as the iron in the vitamins was exacerbating my symptoms. Instead I took liquid iron which is easier to absorb.

I have ulcerative colitis, not crohns, but still IBD. I have safely and naturally conceived and had two gorgeous babies while taking mercaptopurine. I did need to increase my folate intake to 5mg twice a week, plus normal pre-natal vitamin intake. However, I couldn't breastfeed while taking the medication, I tried with my first and it made him very unwell, they changed the safety recommendations between DS#1 and #2.

Oh thank you so much for your input ladies!! I have had 3 children already and have suffered with bowel issues since before I even had my kids so I don't know how long exactly I have had Crohn's for. I suffered an early miscarriage before my 3rd bub was conceived so not idea if that was linked. When they did an ultrasound to see what was causing my pain before I was diagnosed they said that polycystic ovaries was probable? So might get the investigated with my doctor before I see my specialist to see if there may be any problems there too. My crohn's is only a very very mild case, so fingers crossed. Thank you all once again for sharing your experiences
