I think the same thing when people over use or, or use it when it's something you wouldn't really laugh at in person

I better organise a personal intervention because I use 'lol' way too much and 'snickers'

I probably annoy the crap out of lots of people lol

This just made think of one.

    "hehe."

It's pretty lame at the best of times, but my FATHER and my UNCLE (so men in their 50s) always add this. They're not giggling Japanese schoolgirls... who are perhaps the only people who actually do say "hehe," in real life. It's makes me cringe.

I probably over-use "Haha" and things like that, but mostly because I try to avoid using lol unless I actually am killing myself laughing. Rofl is reserved for especially amused moments. I do use lmao quite a lot too I guess.

But I do use haha or heh a lot. Different nuances. Haha = Actually amused. Heh = Closer to an amused Meh.

I'm not quite that bad, but many of my texts have both a LOL and a haha in them...
I think it's that when I read back over an SMS it just doesn't have the warmth that what I'm trying to say would have in a normal face to face convo, so I add them in to try and lighten the mood.
I also extend words a lot, and I know that can be annoying. Eg. Lolllllllllll

I chuck in a "lol" so people get its not serious, because without tone it's difficult to convey something is light hearted or joking.

    Sometimes I over do lol.

Sometimes I specify that I actually did just LOL.

Sometimes I use lol like a because sometimes looks passive aggressive.
