    Default Carers Payment

I have just out up with 12 weeks of waiting to see if carers allowance would be finalised was told I would be eligible and it was finalised yesterday but i get no payments at all. I already have a pension card and all they say is im eligible for a health care card and it says on my record i recieve a carers allowance and according to the centrelink site I am not eligible for the supplements either.

I already get cheap medication due to my son being on my pension card so I really dont know why they bothered to give me a health care card. So in other words what assistance will i get being on carers allowance but im not eligible for the actual payment or any of the supplements? Im confused as that doesnt help with anything why even grant it to me if i get no help from it? anyone else in this position.

What does a health care card do that different to a pension card? do i suppose to get the supplements each each to help with my sons medical conditions?

I'm confused?? Did you apply for the carers allowance or carers payment? But you didn't get payments???

One is more than the other and much harder to get. .. do you know which one?
Carers allowance is about $115 per f/n and payment is about $700 I think. ... (Hope I haven't got them back to front)

    Why did you get rejected??
It took me three goes and 5 months to get the allowance!!!! Was a nightmare and I ended up calling my local member of Parliament for help!! I also get a health care card for my daughter.

I applied for carers allowance i got granted but i dont get the actual payment on my online services and record it says i recieve carers allowance but I dont get the payment only a health care card which im confused as to why they would give me a health care card when i have a pension card already.

So basically they have granted me carers allowance but im getting nothing in return im not even going to get the supplements cause im not eligible as i dont get the money.

They can do that, grant the allowance but only give the health care card. Is the pension card for you or your child? The health care card should be in your child's name.

The other thing it does give you, is that you can get all the childcare rebates, even if you aren't studying or working. Usually if you aren't doing either of those you don't qualify, but if you are receiving the allowance you do qualify.

i already study so am able to get child rebate. Just is hard financially and emotionally it is caring for him its taking a toll on finances and taking a toll on me. I would understand if he just had something minor but it is something he can die from and the constant worry and the constant medication giving the nebuliser his bowel troubles breathing issues, taking temperature multiple times a day , multiple hospital visits and appointments (at 300 each appointment).

Sounds like what happened to me til I kept applying.
    Can I offer a suggestion?
Either call the centrelink carers section and ask if a social worker can be designated to go through your application with you. There are specific people designated to do this job. You can ask why you didn't get it and if you were borderline. They work in a point system so speaking to someone and going through reach point can often get you over the line.
Or call your local member of Parliament to contact and they will take action for you!! This is what I did. . after months of back and forth I had it resolved in a week with backpay to my daughter's birth!!!
Some things are worth more points etc and if you are applying for a baby they often argue all babies need 24hr care and help to feed so it's hard to fully explain the extra needs you might have.
    Good luck!!!

basically told me my son isnt sick enough to get the money. Ive had specialists tell me my son can die without any warning if there is a warning it will only be a quick window to help him. He was born with hydronephrosis bilateral urethea.

Basically he has a blockage in his urethea one kidney is double the size it should be the other is triple the size it should be i found out he had this when i was 20 weeks pregnant and the drs were astonished that the kidneys just keep growing and growing. His kidneys r working okay but he is prone to UTI's and has a major bowel problems

basically he screams while he poos and can take up to 8 hours to do a poo I have to manually help him get it out its a messy job and watching him scream as i try and massage his buttocks and this is TMI but i have to either pull it out for him or help him by pushing up while he pushes(bears down) some days he can by himself most days i ahve to help or put him in the bath to do it.

If he gets the slightest fever i have to take urine and take it to be tested . he takes antiobiotics constantly since birth. He also has severe asthma so he has nebuliser and puffers multiple times a day ( I resusciated him when he was a few months old as he stopped breathing after inhaling smoke the day before which triggers a asthma attack). He has episodes where he gets really lethargic goes blue and limp blood sugar levels drop he goes like this for an hour or two then the next minute he is back to playing (they still dont know what is going on there).

Specialists appointments cost me around $300 lately the appointments have only been once or twice a week but they can get up to everyday a week at times.

This is what i dont see how they can say he isnt sick enough. I would give my world and life for him to be a healthy boy. he is healthy he is a decent weight and he is ahappy boy and he eats and drinks wonderful but its up and down daily i just wish i could take all away his problems but to have someone tell me he isnt sick enough i feel like saying to centrelink would u like me to video it and show u what i do

    How old is he?
As I said they work on a point system.
Help with feeding or feeding tube/g tube is worth points. Giving daily medications is worth points along with preparing them. Additional Allied therapies is worth points etc.
A recognized disability or genetic/chromosomal abnormality is worth points.
Unfortunately the costs for you to attend drs means nothing to them. . well not that I could see anyway.
Sounds like you've had a lot to deal with.
I would still say try what I said in my first post. Trust me its a battle. .. my 8 month old has a severe cardiac condition, a rare genetic syndrome, microcephaly, feeding issues, developmental delays, several hospitalisations, plus open heart surgeries. ... and more... And I had to fight to get it!!
    But I did!!
Good luck. I hope things improve for you.

my lil boy is 18 months old. I feel so bad i know there r people worse off but still feel cheated cause i have no help out there financially to help with the costs. So sorry to hear about ur little one sound slike u have a lil fighter there I give my hats off to all parents that have children that require extra care it makes u have alook around and never take anything for granted and to be blessed with what i have been given. I will put in my reassessment that they did give me and have a talk to my gp and paeds and see if a social worker can look into it. I know they said if he was over 3 it would have been easy to grant it because he is still a baby its so hard to be granted.
