Default 5yr old sucking on clothes..

My 5 yr old has recently started sucking on soft toys or clothes,on the sleeves or around the collar on t shirts, when being worn...leaving big wet marks....Is this something I should be concerned about or is it just a phase?
Does anyone else's child do this?

DS1 does this too but not just soft things. It's like a magnet when he isn't paying attention and everything ends up in his mouth.

My son with high functioning autism does this.
It was due to anxiety which then turned into a habit. It started when he was about 5 too.
I got him a chew toy to stop him using his clothes.

Ds1 is now 7 and only stopped doing this within the last six months.

Ds2 is 4 and has been doing it for the last six months.

It never seemed/seems intentional, just absentminded.

All I know is ds1 has started to grow out if it so I'm trying to keep making sure I don't make a big deal our of it with either, just a simple 'get your shirt out of your mouth' and continue doing what we were doing

my ds also does this...he started doing it at about 5 and he's now 7 and I still catch him sucking on his shirts! It's definitely a habit here...I do think he started it to sooth his teething pains (losing baby teeth and getting adult teeth).

DS is nearly 7 and only just stopped doing it, it only started when he started school for some strange reason. He's now stopped but still forever has his hands tucked down his pants (not fiddling just in the band) like a comfort thing. Boys!!!

Yes my DS does it. He has oral sensory issues though.
Op, does your 5yr old have any other concerning behaviours?

My 3.5 yo DS does this too.
Drives me insane. I think he does it more when he's watching tv or what not, not so much when he's playing.

Thanks for your responses ladies ,it seems like it could be a common thing...

Harvest Moon,no I don't think he has any other behavioral issues ....though he 's not the best listener,I have to tell him to do something like 10 times and then I'll catch him doing something other than what he's meant to be doing...though I think that's quite common for kids his age!?
He also has/had a bit of a speech problem with mild stuttering and clarity...we are pretty much on top of the stuttering but now need to work on clarity..the only other thing I can think of is that he seems to have a lot of excess saliva in his mouth...you can see it when he talks sometimes..perhaps chewing on his tops is his way of getting rid of it?
I asked him the other day why he sucks on his shirts...he said "cos it tastes good" lol
