Default Question re Medicare E Health record?

    Hi ladies

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've been going to the same gp for years and after feeling dissatisfied for some time I've decided to go to another practice (that dh goes to). Getting medical records transferred is such a pain; does the new Medicare e health record mean that I won't need to transfer any records? Do I just sign up to it and then any doctor from any practice can access it?

    Thanks in advance

I don't really know, but I assume that the ehealth record would not show the more important detail. For example I would assume that the ehealth record would show for example immunisations or pap smears based on item numbers. If the ehealth record was a substitute for the GP's records, they would have made quite a lot of noise about it.

The new Medicare PCEHR (personally controlled electronic health record) is still very much in its infancy and won't contain all your medical records. I'm afraid it's more likely to contain none of your records! Once you consent to your records being held there your GP can load them up but not many GP's are able to do that at this stage.

Its frustrating to have to get records the old fashioned way, but that's still the only way I'm afraid! Good luck.

My understanding is none of your detailed medical notes are captured, just your item numbers and things like that

I had to request my medical records in writing when I needed them for a new doctor. It's a massive pain but worth it!

Thanks ladies! Looks like I'll just have to get them transferred.
