Default Concern re Karicare RECALL wanting to switch to a formula NOT made by Fonterra

    Hi Lovely Posters

My DH and I are very concerned about the recent Karicare recall, sparked by a botulinum contamination of whey protein manufactured by Fonterra.

Unfortunately, it appears from conducting a simple google search that this is Not Fonterra's first strike with respect to contamination. In 2008 a company of which they purportedly had 43% interest was responsible for the melamine poisoning of infant formula, in which 6 babies are reported to have died and late last year a batch of their products was found to be contaminated with fertiliser, however, such was reportedly contained with no adverse effect.

It is alleged that Fonterra knew of the botulinum contamination since early last year (2012), however only alerted authoritie on 31/07/2013. I am really worried about Fonterra's apparent continued disregard for babies safety and am seeking an alternative hypoallergenic infant formula (0-6) not linked to Fonterra products.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I read it was NZ only. Unless you are in NZ then switch and go the Bellamy's.

    Me 29 + DH 33 = DD 8 months

So far there is no concern in Australia. According to news reports.

Bellamy don't do a HA formula.

You can buy kids fish oil and add it to one bottle of Bellamy's a day (which is what I did).

I saw some batch numbers somewhere. I'll find them for you...

"It was Karicare Infant Formula Stage 1 (0-6 months) with batch numbers 3169 and 3170. The batch number is on the base of the tin."

"On Saturday Karicare Gold+ Follow On Formula Stage 2 (6-12 months), with batch number D3183 was recalled. Those batches were isolated to an Auckland warehouse, a ship and storage in Australia."
