Great idea. I've heard of people putting an orange and black balloons in the mailbox with a letter and asking people to blow the balloons up and attach them outside if they are ok with trick or treaters coming around.

We're going to do something similar this year. I love Halloween!! I spent a year in the US many years ago and Halloween was just fantastic. The streets were filled with children dressed up in costume and jack-o-lanterns outside houses. It was one of the best nights I had there.

I understand what you're saying but I was more looking for opinions on the letterbox drop.

Love love love the letterbox idea. I think it's a nice courteous way of asking without making people feel obligated to participate if they don't want to. Great idea!

I love Halloween. It is not American though, they just stole it and commercialised it. It was originally "All hallows Eve" and started in Ireland and scotland, they used to carve out faces in the turnips to keep the evil spirits away.

It is still huge over there. Go for it.

I think it's a bit of fun and always have candy ready. I think the letter drop is a great idea. Maybe even try and get a group together by saying something like "if you would like to join us we are meeting at xx place at 6pm)
