If it is covered by warranty take it back and let them fix it. JB should have your purchase details? Or your bank statement should be able to prove the purchase.

Don't suppose you have a "life proof" case on it?

Hubby was having the same prob- turned out to be the case.

I know the iPhone 4 has had lots of microphone issues. Hoped they would have resolved it but maybe not?

dont bother with jb hi, just take it into apple.

on their website you can type in the phones serial number and get apple to call you to help trouble shoot. They'll then book it into your closest apple authorized store if there's no apple store around.

Also are you holding the phone properly with he microphone near your mouth? I know I can get lazy halfway through conversations and stop holding the phone properly and then people comment that they can't hear me. Move it, and it's crystal clear again.

Have you taken off all the protective stickers? Because they are clear and can be hard to see. I missed the one covering the mic. Hence no one could hear me properly. Was ok on speakerphone though...
Was going to suggest this too. When I was buying my new phone a girl came into the optus shop saying her phone had the same issue as yours. The optus lady removed the sticker and said it was all too very common.
Otherwise I would head into apple. I took the kids ipad in that I had bought elsewhere. They just looked up it's serial number or whatever it is to determine when it was bought.
