    Default Kids pointing out rules

I've seen smoking at bus stops and train stations but today for the first time I saw someone smoking on the bus.

At first I thought they just got on with it in their mouth unlit but as he sat across from me I realised no, he really is smoking.

A couple stops later a girl gets off with a smoke in her mouth. Obviously she had been further up the bus with her smoke.

I had both kids with me so really didn't want to start anything by saying something. You never know if someone will get violent so I just sat there in shock thinking what the?!

Anyway we got to our stop and my 3.5 yr old DS gets up and says "Excuse me, but you shouldn't smoke on the bus. See *points to the sign* it says.. NO. smoking. "

I was a little bit proud even though I shouldn't leave my 3 yr old to stand up for everyone on the bus.

What has your child pointed out to others?

My fourth baby did something similar once when she was around 3. We were at a local hospital and a woman was standing under a no smoking sign at the front entrance- smoking. I little girl stood near her and counted to 15 or something and said something along the lines of *see I tan tount to "fityteen" but you "tarnt" even "weed"* I was pretty impressed!

We were at the zoo today and looking at the turtles. There were lots of coins in their pool. A woman was telling her kids they had been thrown in there for good luck. DD said it wasn't good luck for the turtles and it was very irresponsible.

    Awks :/

He said something about how he shouldn't be smoking because it's not good for you. I don't know if he stopped or not though because we got off.

We've always made a big deal about using a crossing and waiting for the little green man. This happened when ds1 was about 4.

Basically, young man looks around, guesses he can dash across the road quickly while ds1 and I were waiting to cross. As he starts to cross ds1 yells out 'hey, you didn't wait for the little green man. You're naughty!' The people around us found it amusing, too

My son has no shame. I try to tell him it is a person's personal choice but I guess he is bombarded by advertisement and feels the need to pass it on. His favourite is the smoking. He will say anything from smoking will kill you, do you know smoking is bad, smoking causes cancer, etc etc. I guess it might be the final slap some people need?? His recent one is anyone pregnant ( I am pregnant ATM), YOUR not allowed to drink alcohol. Your not allowed to smoke!! At least he has not said it to a overweight person and the people have actually been pregnant!!

A shopkeeper who I know is a smoker was very defensive when my son started talking about how they should not sell lighters (they were on the counter) as they are used for lighting smokes.

It is hard because they are stating the truth, but there decorum needs polishing!

I had such a giggle reading these! Exactly like you said, patsmum, they know the facts but don't have the tact to know when not to say it.

Good on your son for saying something, tadpoles, I get why you didn't but someone on the bus should have. It's not cool!

I was at an event the other week where people were smoking right under the no smoking signs (it was raining and they obviously didn't want to get wet) and without thinking I said loudly to my friend "don't those signs say 'NO SMOKING'???" really loudly and the people looked uncomfortable but the girl at the coat check also heard me and moved them along officially. I'm sure my kids will be as tactful as I am one day!
