    Default 6 follicles

I've been on puregon injections to do IUI this cycle. I had an u/s at my FS's office this morning which revealed 6 mature follicles. She has cancelled our IUI and told us to use condoms for the rest of the week.

After 2 years TTC we're really, really bummed to miss a cycle.

But some googling has shown me that many people get pregnant with single pregnancies after u/s showed 5-6 follicles.

I initially thought we definitely wouldn't try this cycle as the risk to me and potential babies are huge. But now I'm not so sure.

    Has anyone had this before?

    Hi MissusMac,

I'm sorry to hear your cycle got cancelled. I know how frustrating it is especially when you really want to try. I don't know if its the same but when we first did clomid & they up'd my dose they did a scan & I had 3 & they told me to use condoms and not to try for that cycle. That was very hard to do & I understand the disappointment.

Even though I really wanted to try, we decided to follow the doctors advice 'just in case'.

I'm sorry I'm not much help but I guess you've got to think what you would do on the off chance you ended up with triplets or more and then do what you're both comfortable with

You know that show John and Kate plus 8 - they did IUI on a OI cycle, and they ended up with 6. Just sayin'.

I guess you need to weigh up the risks and benefits. The risks of a higher order multiple pregnancy are pretty high so as hard as it would be I would crack out the condoms..

I loved that show, but dont want to star in the sequel ;-) OI and IUI keep the risk of multiples much higher. We won't be having either.

DH is still really keen to try. I'm coming around to the idea, but still have my reservations.

I guess if you are prepared to go in with your eyes open, know the risks if high order multiples, that it could be recommended that you selectively reduce the pregnancy, then it is your choice to make. All best and I hope you get your bub soon.

The more or research I think we're going to try. Without a trigger shot I'm likely to only ovulate with the 1 or 2 dominant follies (with a trigger all 6 would release). We've had 1 pregnancy (m/c) in 2 years, so our likely hood of fertilising 2+ eggs are probably low.

Selective reduction is the thing that really concerns me. I guess it's one of those things that you don't know for sure what you'd do in the situation until your face with it.
