    Default Anyone had an iron transfusion?

    I am having one tomorrow and just wanted a heads up on what to expect.

    I haven't had one but have done a few at work (nurse). It's fairly basic. Have obs taken every 5 mins or so at the beginning and then every hour. From what I have heard, people say they feel better within half an hour. If you feel dizzy, hot or sick let the nurse know.

    3-4 hours normally, sometimes longer

    I had one 2 weeks ago, took 7 hours.

    An iron transfusion...wow... Can I ask how low your iron has to be to require a transfusion?

    I had one but it was about 8 years ago. I imagined I would come out of it all rosy cheeked and full of beans, but didn't really feel any different! Mine took about 4 hours I think, but I know at the time they were doing a trail of a 30 minute transfusion but have no idea whether that is done now!
    Good luck, I didn't have any side effects or issues!
