I may watch it when I get time without kids and my wife around. Not sure when that will be???
I will let you know if it does change my mind. But it would have to address my particular arguments, not just pull on the heart strings.

It's based on fact, not perception. And especially in the first season the people on it mainly have views like yours. Which then change. How can you not be curious?

Oh I forgot you have no time. Better spent on here writing 87 posts saying the same thing over and over.
Funny... I could say the same things about 99% of the other posters in this thread.

    SBS... Unbiased....

Australia does provide reunion rights, which is a different matter.

Thank you for answering. Again, I see your point here, but we are coming at it from different angles, I think. As a woman and a mother of daughters, I would do my level best to get us to a country where discrimination, gang rape and violence against women is NOT rife, where there are opportunities for women.

Fair enough. For the record, I think you raise some interesting questions which should be answered.

But I think a policy that says NO "boat people" (that phrase makes me nauseous) is dangerous ground and is reminiscent of the White Policy. And PNG is not a safe place as has already been discussed in detail.

So you're saying that having money means you have less right to a safe place to live and passage to get there? Moreover, you'd be ok living in a country where your children will likely never go to school and remain illiterate, you and your family will spend your day begging for food or in near slave labour (children too), your daughters will likely be raped and any possessions you do have will likely be stolen? Gosh, pardon some for wanting more in life.

Just wondering what your preferred news source is, if you feel ABC and SBS are too biased?

You're right, there's so many considerations. No wonder it's not a linear process with clear cut prioritisations.

It is no different for a man. And I understand the desire to come WANT to come to Australia. And you/they can do their best. But at the end of the day, if your WANT is not met, you should still be able to find relief in another country. You have after all, escaped persecution with your life!
