VP, you of all people choosing to call us 'bleeding hearts' in a condescending and insulting tone after your many posts telling others off for insults in past threads? Really?

People are debating you not just because you have a different view but you are continually spouting fallacies or broad generalizations. How many times can one explain to you why Indonesia and Malaysia are not safe or viable options? Why? Because they are not signatories of the convention, refugees are not safe there, offered no protection or opportunity because they are considered illegal immigrants--this is not opinion, it is FACT. Facts that have been backed up in past threads and comments by links to refugee organizations and the UNHCR but apparently to you that is propaganda or lies?

I have been to both countries by the way, one town I visited in Malaysian Borneo recently had people taken hostage by Filipino militants with some killed (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/04/wo...ia04.html?_r=0).

Believing the media through all this? Great for you but I choose to get my information from outlets that are not picking and choosing or sensationalizing their stories. The main****** media in Australia rarely explains the situation as a whole, hence why so many Australians continue to spout that asylum seekers arriving by boat are illegal, why Australians think they should stay in Indonesia, and many other ill-informed comments.

And am I hopping on some 'bleeding heart bandwagon?' Give me a break! Heaven forbid I just find this a topic worth caring and being informed about from various outlets besides right-wing commentators or main****** media.

So if my opinion happens to be in the bubhub majority I am not thinking for myself or arguing valid points? Another lovely, condescending generalization. You wonder why so many of us get defensive when debating you.

Aren't you the one that has said you love a debate? Is that not what we are doing? Is it my fault that more people are not debating your side? Shall I go find some so you feel more comfortable?

For someone who is so adamant about keeping a thread on track I find your most recent posts surprising.

No, because every time someone doesn't agree with you, you insist on making up little vaguely insulting nicknames, like "bleeding hearts", "lefties" or "greenies". Which personally, I find to be complimentary rather than insulting, so you may want to work on that.

It isn't that you have a different opinion, it is that you clearly just haven't done any research on this topic at all. If you insist on having such determined and vocal views on something, why don't you just do the research? Honestly, I just don't understand people who have such strong views on something, yet know nothing about it. What is that all about.

"Secondly, I say something like this: “I’m sure you’ve heard the expression ‘everyone is entitled to their opinion.’ Perhaps you’ve even said it yourself, maybe to head off an argument or bring one to a close. Well, as soon as you walk into this room, it’s no longer true. You are not entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue for.” - Patrick Stokes

So you are saying, because you are in the minority and not the majority on bubhub that you have clearly done your research and thought for yourself. But we haven't. Interesting - because in real life, we are clearly the minority - so what you are saying is that we are the ones who think for ourselves and develop arguments. Cool!!

You are quick to jump to conclusions, particularly as you don't know who the others posters are or their experiences concerning this issue Someone who discloses that they claim to have first hand experience does not mean they possess this nor any academic knowledge on the matter... as previous posts have shown.

Fairyfloss - slightly off topic but I would be fascinated to know more about your story. I love to read autobiographies of women from different cultures so I'd be fascinated to hear more about your experiences. (I understand that you might not want to share though.)
