Oh goodness, I get frustrated at the same issue as well, but the way she said nice aussie who hung up on me and then I'm not racists but Hmm, seems like she is a fairly prejudiced person. Don't get me wrong, I totally get annoyed when I am talking on the phone and I can't understand them or they can't understand me. But I've been on the phone to plenty of Aussies that didn't know what they were on about as well.

Racism is attributing a negative characteristic to everyone is one race - so if she had said all Indians are idiots, or Asians talk funny, then I would say it was racist.
I find it very frustrating and feel the word racist is WAY over used. I think there is a difference between being intolerant/ignorant and being racist. To me being racist means that you dislike/hate all people of that race e.g. There is a diffence between being intolerant because you can't understand Indian accents and disliking every person you see because they look Indian.

She may be a racist but that status isn't.

No, I don't think it's racist to acknowledge that people with limited English shouldn't be employed by English-speaking call centres.

I get frustrated too, although it's with the cheap-skate companies who outsource overseas rather than the employees.

Just wanted to add a positive story to this thread. I spent well over an hour with a man on the phone today, helping me with my stupid internet.
He was so thoughtful, polite and patient. Obviously well aware that his heavy Indian accent might hinder what we were trying to achieve...he double checked that I had understood him at each step, even took time to "o for Oscar, n for Nelly etc" out some commands I had to enter.
We got the job sorted, and I think this guy really deserves his position in the company he works for - we managed to get over the "language barrier" with ease.

Personally I think do the status in the op has an underlying "feel" of racism. If not technically racism - it does show a lack of tolerance and patience.
