    HI There Everyone
Ive been very slack at posting over the last week or two, but I have been keeping up to date with you all.
I hope that everyone travelling to CPT/already there, has the very best of luck. Hopefully the weather is kinder to you all than it was for us in September.
Best of luck to you netty - you are on the same journey, even though on a slightly different (and more exotic) path. I am thinking of you all xxx

As for us.. Ive been meeting with my wonderful obs once a week, and he is reassuring us at every visit, with a very powerful heartbeat, which is music to our ears. Its almost surreal actually.

Not sure if I mentioned, but it appears that we just have the one bub on board. We did transfer 2 back in, but there was one empty sac when we went for our first appointment. - we are still over the moon that we have come this far.
So there will definitely be a return trip to CT within the next couple of years...

Our little poppy seed was doing the Macarena on Monday, and leaping about all over the place. Its very strange for so early, but its got better jerky movements than Michael Jackson - on screen anyway. With every passing week we are becoming more encouraged. We will be 10 weeks tomorrow.

Its still so very nerve wracking, but we are allowing ourselves the indulgence of a little excitement.. We have likened it to having a treat of a little freddo (as opposed to the whole bar of Dairy Milk)! My analogies are often food orientated, so for that I sincerely apologise.

Can I ask - I stopped the PIO injections around 2 weeks ago, and my bum still feels like I have had implants of ball bearings.. Is this normal? I thought the sensitivity would subside within a few days - but JAYSUS..

That aside, symptomatically, Im doing very well (I think..)
I have started with a little nausea, but I think I'm one of the fortunate ones - in that it only really comes and goes, and its generally in the evening when Im laid out on the sofa. For this Im eternally grateful.
Im completely buggered though - no energy to speak of, and my chest resembles Aida.. but on the whole im doing better than I expected..

So for those in Cape town, or at the airport - Say hello to the Penguins for me!
For those choosing donors - Best of luck..
For all newbies, just starting their research - welcome.. don't be afraid, and ask, ask away.

    Hi Mayaus
I'm new on here as well. You will find so much information on here, it's great. I'm in a similar situation to you. We just got DH sperm analysis back today actually and it's gotten worse in the last year so we think we will be going double donor. We are waiting on CFC for more information on where to get the donor sperm from. DH is part asian and I can't find any donors suitable on the list they supplied. We are using EDSA for donor eggs they seem helpful so far.
    Good luck on your journey.

    Dear Lily,
I am sorry to hear you are also dealing with sperm issues. I just found it ironic because we got pregnant so many times naturally, but I kept having miscarriages and now we can't use DH's fresh sperm anymore. Do you have any frozen sperm from your husband that could be suitable ? We will try this path and hopefully it will work, but in this case, I will go on my own to CT as the expenses to take the sperm across + cycle + donor + all tickets etc... are just too much for us. I am feeling a bit scared about going through this overwhelming experience by myself but hopefully it will be fine. Let me know how you go, good luck !

Has anyone used ababysa? If yes any problems? Also looking at Edsa too.

Also my first step is choosing the donor? When do I contact clinic or do the donor agency helps liaise with that?

    Thanks

    Hi Girls

wishing those of you in CT the very best.

Makey - So pleased for you. Much love to the two embies on board. How lovely of you to have taken items for the orphanages.

When I returned, I contacted street swags to see if I could some how get a similar project up and running in SA. Unfortunately, they are yet to respond and I know it sounds unbelievable, but it didn't enter my mind until your post. Must get back on to them. X

Mayaus - a big warm welcome to you. You are exactly in the right place. Sorry cannot help with the sperm advice, albeit I am of the understanding that there is a specialised company who deals with cryo transport. I have a friend who sent sperm to SA, so I can contact her if no one else can help. As for travelling alone. A number of the wonderful women have travelled alone to CT. Admittedly i was a bit scared going to SA at first, but having been to CT i would definitely return on my own. That said, i wouldn't go to Joburg by myself.

We had a great female taxi driver that we accessed a couple of times. I have her mobile contact that i can send you if needed.

Wow how exciting that you are choosing a donor. All the best with your journey.

Angle - We had our procedure in Joburg (donor wouldn't travel to CT). My agency noted they liaised with two clinics. I chose the one the donor had been to previously as I wanted her to feel as comfortable as possible.

Helon - so happy for you. Man oh man 10 weeks. Only a few more to the 3D scan!
I was on the POI to 12 weeks and from memory the hard lumps lasted for weeks and weeks afterward, was seriously like butt implants gone bad...not that I need any enhancing of my butt.

    Hey all

Because I will be travelling by myself, has anyone used a b & b or any suggestions for accommodation not too expensive near Cfc. Also what did others use for internet?

    Default checking in...

    Hi everyone,
Once again I’m back from a long silence – apologies but I do read the updates everyday and I’m always kind of bummed on the days when there aren’t any. Anyway, there were a couple of questions that went out recently that had me thinking, so I thought I should get off my lazy a** and pipe up.

First of all, for those of you who are beginning your journey, welcome and congratulations on making what can be a pretty tough decision. Most of us who post here had really good experiences both with CFC and with Cape Town – you’re in good hands. For those of you who’ve had bfps and I’ve been remiss in saying congrats – CONGRATS!!! And those of you who had disappointments – I’m so sorry. For those of you in CT currently, GOOD LUCK!!! BB4Me, I’m so glad that you’ve given it another shot – did you have frosties or did you have to start from scratch? And for those of you now in the 2ww - Makeba - fingers crossed!

Mayaus – Others might have different stories and experiences but when we were in CT there was a woman staying at our B&B (near the clinic) whose husband’s sperm got held up in customs and it all died. She had to extend her ticket by three weeks and wait for another batch to arrive, all the while praying to all that’s holy that it wouldn’t get held up again. Again, I don’t know if this is an unusual experience but it sounded totally awful and cost her a bomb. Maybe you could ship it well ahead of time? By the way, I wouldn’t have a problem going to CT by myself at all – you do have to be smart about being in dodgy areas, especially at night, but the same could be said for a trip to Paris or NYC. For shots, the woman I met would go in to the clinic every day and the nurse would do them for her.

Helonwheels – Congratulations!!!! It sounds like it’s all going wonderfully. We saw our little one go all crazy at about the same time – mind blowing, isn’t it? I wanted to tell you that I’m now 20 weeks and one side of my butt where I was putting the injections still hurts like h*ll sometimes – it’ll start stinging out of nowhere. I don’t know what we did to it – maybe hit a nerve? – but it’s taking its sweet time healing. I know someone whose baby is well over one and she still has some pain, too – don’t know why this happens to some of us and what we’re doing. I don’t know why it’s only on one of my cheeks!

Angel – I contacted the donor and the clinic at the same time to get all the info I could. That said, if I remember correctly it was the donor agency that hooked me up with the doctor through his assistant once we had chosen our donor. Also, my donor agency and the clinic were both able to recommend some b&bs near the clinic, where we stayed for a couple of nights. We stayed at an OK b&b that was reasonable and within walking distance of the clinic but there are others that were more highly recommended and possibly closer. Also, they charged for internet whereas other places we stayed usually included it. (Our accommodations fell through the week before we left so we had to take what we could.) I’m happy to give you the name, though, if you’d like it. B When we were at that B&B we would get free internet at the Claremont Shopping mall.

AFM, all’s going well! We had all of our results back and everything looks good. We also had our 20 week ultrasound on Monday – looks like it’s a girl! My husband is freaking out – he’s worried that, ‘it’s so hard for a girl’ – and is afraid he’s going to end up committing murder against anyone who might hurt her. Sigh. She's started making herself known in the last few weeks, surfing around in there and occasionally making me jump in surprise. I've never felt anything like it - like someone's popping popcorn in my belly.

    Good luck, everyone! xx.

I am on the egg donor hunt now. I got a call from the clinic and my last frozen embryo I had transferred has failed. While I am very disappointed I am a little relieved as I couldn't go thru another miscarriage after my 2 I just had because of chromosome abnormalities.

Now to start the process and hopefully Jan to Apr next year. What are some of the questions I should be asking? I am quite scared to embarking with this journey as when I go I will be going alone and I hate being away from my husband and daughter and I don't know how I will cope 12 days by myself.

Has anyone asked if they will do a cycle and have them freeze and go over later for a shorter time?

My head is buzzing right now but at least I can enjoy a chardy!

Hello lovely ladies... it has been so long since I have been on but I do check in and read what everyone is up to, so much has been happening...

Firstly to everyone in CT and travelling soon best of luck and lots and lots of good wishes I hope you all enjoy the holiday and come back with a little one on board.

Welcome to all the new ladies it is great to have you join us, I found this forum a great place for information and as a reminder that your not alone in this journey.

Mayaus I shipped sperm to CFC from Sydney and while it all worked out in the end it did cause me a few anxious moments. Firstly you will need an import permit for SA, CFC arranged this for me it was approx. $200, basically a few forms to fill out and sign by the receiving clinic, sending clinic and yourselves. This is were I ran into problems the application for the permit sat on someone's desk for weeks and wasn't processed, I think I got mixed up in a change of policy with the health department but who knows? Eventually after a lot of intervention, numerous emails and serious stressing (it honestly was the most stressful part of the whole process) I got the permit, literally days before I was due to arrive in CT. I had to take a huge leap of faith that the sperm would arrive intact and get on the plane to go, it arrived the morning of my first appointment, a huge relief.

I dealt with two companies one based here in Sydney who ship all sorts of 'dangerous goods' around the world and the other based in London who specialise in IVF samples etc, I will look up the contact details for both and send them to you. I ultimately went with the London based company for two reasons, they specialise in IVF samples and they were a bit cheaper and the cost of the dry shipper was included in their quote, CFC had also recommended them. For me it was the right decision they helped with sorting out the permit issues and they went above and beyond to get the sperm to CT in time. I found them very easy to deal with.

I went to CT by myself and loved it, I felt safe and found it very easy to get around, one of the best holidays (and it is good to think of it as a holiday) I have ever had. I also met up with a couple of other ladies I had met on this forum and we had a great time. Please just ask if you have any questions or want anymore info about the shipping.

AFM - currently 18 weeks and doing well, am thankfully over the complete exhaustion I felt for the first three months and have some energy back, skipped the morning sickness thank goodness but have the sorest breasts and honestly can they get any bigger? (and they were big to start with), my cousin delighted in telling me that hers got bigger then her head - great. Found a lovely OB who I see every fortnight and get a quick ultrasound and pictures for the collection, the baby has been wriggling around like a little worm and I can't wait to feel it, hopefully any day now. Looking forward to the 20 week scan and some 3D images.

I hope all the other pregnant ladies are doing well and enjoying this time .

Lots of love to you all xxx
