Hi girls - sorry, Jodi is absolutely correct - I didn't mean to give anyone the impression that pre-eclampsia can be treated/prevented simply with asprin!

My point was that I saw a private OB and there was absolutely no sign of the pre-eclampsia with fortnightly blood pressure and urine protein testing....even 3 days before my first scare. I am fit and healthy and had a really easy pregnancy so it was a complete surprise. The renal specialists and several doctors who treated me at Royal Prince Alfred are the ones who told me about the early pregnancy blood test where they can get an idea of who is most likely to develop the condition. My private OB never ordered that particular test, but apparently if I was a public patient at RPA I would have had it and they would have then put me on asprin which apparently would have given me a longer gestation time. Just had a quick look on the net and apparently it can be effective from week 12...

So if you are really concerned about developing pre-eclampsia and no one has suggested that test make sure you talk to your doctor about it.

It is an incredibly serious condition and almost a month after giving birth I am still being treated. Like Jodi I also have a high chance of future BP problems and developing it again just as seriously with another pregnancy. The doctors told me I almost didn't make it through both times I was admitted to hospital (I actually have no memory of the first time I was that ill) and in the end they performed the emergency c-section to save me and my smallest baby (her placenta was directly effected by the pre-eclampsia and she wasn't getting enough nutrients...she was only 1500 grams). If I had of had that test at 12 weeks they probably would have picked up my likely risk and started an early treatment plan rather than having absolutely no sign of it until 29 weeks.

Again sorry for the confusion...hope this clarifies the point I was trying to make about testing!

    Hi everyone,

One week today and we are in the air...starting to get a wee bit anxious now!
Sorry for the question ladies but did with all the various pills we are popping did anyone suffer from constipation... sorry TMI!!!! My reflexologist suggested I take Magnesium powder as this will assist and one shouldn't struggle post transfer... my diet is really good, it must be the meds that I'm on causing this!
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

To all the new CPT bound ladies, welcome and good luck with your journeys.

    Take care xx

Welcome to the newbies! Thembs good luck with your pending trip.

The info on pre-eclampsia is of concern to me. I have probably every risk factor going! Glad I am forewarned. I might stay on the aspirin for a while.

Makeba, I have found the meds giving me constipation before. I almost headed for medical help once as I could tell I was getting impacted. I felt really grotty too. It only happened one attempt but a couple of times that cycle for some reason. I eat lots of fruit and veg too so apart from heading for a chemist, nothing I could change to make it better. I hope it resolves soon for you. Unfortunately it can tend to happen with the meds we're on.

I'm starting to wind down a bit now prior to being in full holiday mode. I've been doing a bit of sewing and as usual, I've headed into grand projects without remembering to double the time they are likely to take. Yesterday I treated myself to a couple of new CDs and I've been learnign to use my Notebook a bit more. There's certainly some interesting apps out there!

    Have a lovely day everyone!

Makeba - I had the same while I was on all those medications. It helped me to drink heaps of water. Still felt sluggish though.
Net - I have been following your story. I have my fingers crossed for you. Hope everything goes to plan.
AFM - we have chosen our SA donor!!!!!! I keep second guessing myself but I think this girl is a match. Lucky I am German background and there are lots of girls of similar. We went through EDSA, Kimenthra seems very good to deal with. Replys seem to be over night which is good. Anyone else have any dealing with them? The donor has donated before. Just curious to see what other peoples egg count was from their donor?

Hi ladies - hope everybody is well? Welcome to the newcomers. Wishing you all a wonderful journey. You've started at the right place!

Makeba - the Nurses at my IVF clinic put me onto Benefiber and I cannot recommend it highly enough. You can buy it in sachet form from the supermarket and just put it into any drink or onto your morning cereal as it is COMPLETELY tasteless. From the time I started taking it, I never had a problem. Also be sure to drink lots of water, because that definitely helps too.

I didn't develop per-eclampsia with my daughter, but I was on the verge of it. They found protein in my urine at 39 weeks, so they monitored me on a daily basis, until my daughter was born 10 days overdue! My OB had already looked at all my previous pregnancy notes and suggested I have the test at 12 weeks - which is next week for me. If I come back with a risk factor he will induce me prior to my due date. I'm probably going to have to have a c-section again, as that's the way I went with my first bub.

I really can't believe that I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. I'm feeling better and better as every day goes by. I bought a foetal doppler on ebay and can listen to our babies heartbeat, which is truly amazing. At my last OB check up it was 182bpm.

Good luck to all the ladies who have just embarked on this journey, as well as those just about to head to Cape Town. Very exciting times ahead for all of you. You are in for the experience of a life time! Hoping that you also come back with some excess internal luggage!

    to all.

Hi to everyone. All those that are about to depart shortly and those on their fabulous pregnancy journeys. Pixel, haven't seen you on here for a little while, I think of you often and hope everything is settling down a bit and starting to go according to plan.

Quick question ladies that have been to Cape Town. It's a bit random, but sometimes it's quicker to put it on here to those that have travelled the path before- and my answer magically comes, just like "sleeping on it".

I'm trying to work out our last 2 nights accommodation, only have 1.5 day wherever we stay as it is an early morning flight home the 2nd day.

We are spending the first 2 weeks in Cape Town, & will do any overnight trips from here, then down to Fish Hoek Bay for 3 nights (in this amazing self contained apartment with stunning views) - so can visit all the little bays from that side and get our fix of the ocean and beach walks etc.

Then the last 2 nights, I can't decide. I thought maybe Camps Bay, as everyone is raving about it. We'd be there for 1.5 days OR back into Cape Town - thoughts ladies? Is there quite a lot to walk around and see in Camps Bay shopping strip? (other than the beaches). I understand there are plenty of awesome restaurants and Codsfather - the famous fish restaurant.

    Thanking you in advance
