Just a quick note from me, fertilisation is 11 out of the 13 which I was really impressed by I was expecting half of that. We wait and see how things are on Monday. Transfer is Wednesday. Still at speirs we went to franschoek today then tothe lion park and monkey park at Drakenstein, its basically a rescue centre for the poor animals. Tomorrow we will head into Stellenbosch then girraffe house then back to Cape Town.

rainbow I thought you were congratulations.

Pixel good luck for next week honey I'm thinking of you

Awesome fert rates !!! Good news so far, what a relief for you. Yay !!

Did you hire a car to get around? Silly question, but when you move out of Cape Town for a few days, did you keep your accommodation going there by still paying for it?

January - thanks lovely as well as for all your support and excellent travel tips for Cape Town. Are you still researching things? Looking forward to hearing all about it.xx

Dr LR wanted me to do another blood test tomorrow to make sure that the levels are doubling. The clinic were a little apprehensive and thought that it would only stress me out. They apparently only monitor the second level after one week, but were happy to comply.

I feel so tired all of a sudden. It only hit me in the middle of the day yesterday and then again today. Last night, I got a second wind and was up until 11pm! Go figure. Springaroo still on SA time maybe?

Jodie - glad all is going well with you after fertilisation. Wishing you all the very best with the progression to transfer. Sounds like you have too much to see to be worried about how things are progressing, and I think that's definitely the best way!

Pixel - sorry to hear you had to move your flights. It will all be worth it in the scheme of things. I was thinking that might happen to me - and I would have paid the fee and extra accommodation if necessary. You must be brown as a berry now. No vitamin D supplements needed for you I take it? I'm enjoying being back in the beautiful Sydney weather - it was 29 here yesterday so absolute bliss after not having a day over 20 degrees in Cape Town (except the day we went to Stellenbosh when it was 24 - that was divine!)

    Babydust to all....

Hi ladies, I've been lurking for a while. DH and I are sticking to IVF with our own eggs for the remainder of this year but we've decided that if we're not pregnant by then we'll be looking at donors in the new year. So, I've been preparing myself by reading your stories here.

I just couldn't stay quiet and lurking though when I heard about your BFP Rainbow. I've been reading your story and I'm so happy it has had a happy ending for you.

MrsErinR - Welcome...we have quite a few of the ladies from the IVF Over 40 thread here now. Good luck with the rest of the year.

Rainbow - Its good that you are doing another blood test tomorrow, but don't stress if your levels have not exactly doubled in 48 hours...there was a big jump with mine but not exactly double...it will happen, it may just takes time....then again it may double and more! Im so happy for you, given all the trials you had. Nurse Liz is lovely, isn't she? Liz spoke to me non-stop...she was even teaching me the lingo and Im sure I know most of her family now!!

January - How is the shifting of the 3kilo of Cape Town weight going? Its so hard to remove, isn't it? Geez, just thinking of the food...Im sure I have Biltong Belly!!!

Sootymay - How did you go with your meds? I used daily Lucrin as I had been on it before and I knew that it agreed with me and I also found that it was the best economical option for me, given how long I would be on it. I was also on Progynova, Estradot Patches, Viagra Pessaries and Terbutaline for my lining thickness. Cardiprin, Clexane and Prednisolone for my high ANA, I also had an Intralipid Infusion a couple of days prior to transfer. I also purchased extra Gestone to use right through to 11 weeks. I actually prefer the Gestone injections over pessaries or Crinone ANY day. Sure I have lumps on both sides of my butt, but I haven't found them painful what so ever. Regarding the Intralipid Infusion...just be aware that according to the documentation that CFC give you, they recommend a follow up Intralipid Infusion 4-5 weeks following a positive result....could be in an issue back in your home town..it was for me, as no one in Cairns did it, closest was Brisbane.

JodiW - Congratulations...fabulous fert rate. Good luck for Wednesday. What a nightmare arrival you had...hopefully everything will be smooth sailing from now on. We had the same issue going through customs in J'burg....they had all stalls/booths open when 3 plane loads of people arrived, but that didn't last long....they went from all booths to only 3 and it took us an hour and a half to get through customs...we also had to run to collect bags, recheck and find our next flight.

Laned - Oh, hun, don't ever apologise for how you feel...NEVER underestimate your own pain. I think all of us have 'questioned' our women-hood at one point or other...recognise and acknowledge the thoughts and then move onto what your body CAN and maybe will again achieve. As far as your age....never give into your age...its just a number. Hun, Im 48 and I have waited 28 years to see 2 double lines and I have achieved that for the first time in my life...and you know what, as soon as my OB and CFC say I can go back for another, I DARN WELL WILL and with no guilt. You, I and everyone on this thread deserve our families and in that regard, we are no different from the couples that can fall pregnant naturally.

Pixel - Fingers crossed for good news for tonight or tomorrow. Loved your comment of ticking off the big cats and elephants of the world . Im so envious of walking the cubs and feeding them..how very very special. Glad that you have got to a stage of leaving everything to FS and not stressing about things....its so much easier, isn't it? I don't know how I did it, but I also managed it...the cycle seems so much easier.

SVD - A massive CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your boys.

Angel - I went to my GP and told her all about Cape Town, procedures, medications etc....she was MORE than happy to be involved, in fact, quite excited. My GP wrote the scripts and any referrals on the advice from CFC that presented to her.

    Wishmeluck - A big congratulations.

    Net
    - Busy, busy, busy...it never ends. I would go the aircon...as you know, Im in Cairns, so Im quite use to the tropics and humidity, however, I was glad for aircon when I travelled through Jamaica and the Bahamas, and we also stayed on the beach or close to it.

Jennilee - Wow, 10 weeks already and all is going well, congrats.

    DJ -

Anait - Congrats hun...seeing that heartbeat is truly special. I will PM you to get your email address...I will email you and DJ the photos we had taken in South Africa.

SH72 - Your very welcome SH72...I hope you have some useful information for a way forward. Have you had your appointment with the reproductive immunologist yet?

to anyone that I have missed.

Thanks for all your well wishes...it really was special seeing the heartbeat for the first time. I thought I would cry but I think I was so stunned and amazed. Strangely it was a very quiet trip when DP dropped me back at work. When we got there, we just looked at each other stunned and all I could say was "we're having a baby"...DP and I hugged and then shed a tear....I couldn't walk back into work!!

So far I have been lucky, very lucky....no morning sickness and I can count on one hand how many times I have been REALLY tired. In fact, if it wasn't for the odd twinges/slight cramps that I have, I wouldn't think that I was pregnant!!!

It hasn't been all smooth sailing though....I had a big bleed which scared me. Unfortunately, I was standing in the vets with my little Jack Russell and suddenly felt "something" warm and not right between my legs...it happened 3 times. I was SO unprepared and stood there squeezing my thighs together. I got out of there and it happened again on the drive home. Lifted my dress and there was so much blood!! But that was it...no more. I had no pain. A dear friend of mine who has a medical background settled me down with her medical opinion (which was confirmed by my OB).

My first choice OB fit me in straight away and a lot earlier than she needed to see me. I feel that I am in the best of hands. The OB and Midwife spent over 2 hours with me...they really listened to me and we discussed so much...they have really taken me under their wing. OB gave me another USS...bub was fine and still a strong heartbeat...she also confirmed that I had a subchorionic bleed due to the clexane. The 'pocket' of blood or clot was not there, so must have bled out, but no guarantees that it wont happen again, given that I will be on clexane to at least 32 weeks.

So I am almost 9 weeks and hard to believe that I am over halfway of the first trimester!!! Next hurdle...Nuchal scan...please let everything be okay.

Laned I'm sorry to hear that your hubby isn't keen for number 2. He may change his mind in the future when bub is a little older. I wouldn't worry about your endo saying its not advisable to go for number 2 its the ob who would have the better information re your classical incision, as I said it used to be that once you had a csection you always had to have a csection and they don't believe that anymore once stitches are healed it all goes back the same and doesn't make it a weaker point there is probably more Info on the classical incision now and an endo wouldnt necessarily read up on ob findings and research, anyhoo what ever you decide to do, you do have your little angel.

Rainbow I was like this first time around too, not point in stressing about something that may never happen, either the eggs are good or they are not, as the donor has donated before and Dr LR said she has good eggs I expected to get one good egg out of the batch, that may still happen, if there is more, fantastic, hubby wants to donate them once we have another bub.

sooty, yes we hired a car, if you want to see Cape Town and its surrounds its the best option. We paid for the accomm here whilst we were away for the weekend, however last time we said we would take our baggage and they could let the apartment for the time we were away, it was too much trouble for them and we were told to we could leave our luggage there.

Net if you are travelling on low funds what about staying in a backpackers or youth hostel, its the cheapest option, I have found in my travels that some of them even have their own rooms, I.e not all of them are dormitory sleeping arrangements.

Gotta go the natives are restless
