    Default Barbie movies unimpressed.

On a Saturday night we sometimes let dd (3.5) watch a movie before bed. She requested a Barbie movie as she is newly interested. We found one called a fairy secret and thought ok. 5 mins in and we switched it off risking a massive tantrum. Boys, fashion, and girls being *****y behind backs was basically an immediate theme. It's this what little girls being exposed to?
Luckily we found one about Rapunzel and Barbie has no make up on is covered up and there are talking animals. I'm glad we are taking note of what she watches. Any one else found this with these movies?

No but my DD is mostly into Toy Story, Peppa Pig etc so we haven't really got into the 'girlie' movies yet! That's sad that that's what's being taught to our girls though :-/

We agree still on those and encouraging pixar type movies etc. This tonight is definitely a one off. Movies are family time and my husband and I are just not enjoying this at all! In saying so the one we found its fine. Dd is very girly through no deliberate encouragement from us. I was very much a tom boy.

Sorry I don't want this to sound harsh but what did you expect from a Barbie movie? Sounds like you know better

I saw one a couple years ago when I used to baby sit pre child. They all seemed fine and innocent. This new one we got tonight was like an animated "mean girls" not the fairy tale/fantasy I was expecting. Yep learning my lesson to research first though.

I think that the older Barbie movies are quite good. They're more like traditional fairytales rather than vapid Mean Girls for toddlers.

Bratz dolls and all associated movies and merchandise gives me the ****s. I can only hope that, if I ever have a girl, she'll have better taste.
