Default How do you deal with tantrums?

DD is 14 months. She has physically been early developer. Has been throwing tanties since 10 months but today was the biggest one and the longest by far. She was throwing things at me. I don't know what approach I want to take with this. How do you deal with them? I generally have stopped reading parenting books but if something is recommended I will take a look!
    Thanks

I normally just ignore tantrums. If stuff was getting thrown at me, I would move away or if they followed, put them in their cot til they calm down. Good luck!

DS is quite good at throwing a tanty. So far I just ignore them, no eye contact etc until he calms down. They pass pretty quickly.

That seems to be the advice I have gotten from my friends too. Thanks ladies. So when you go out and they happen do you just ignore and leave? If we are in the middle of a toddler class what should I do!?

Yep at that age I just ignored it, once they realise you're not giving them attention they soon stop.
The twins are 4 now and rarely throw them but when they do I send them to "calm down corner" and they stay there until they've finished.

Not sure about toddler class but if they threw tantrums out shopping etc I ignored it and carried on with what I needed to do.
If I gave in and left every time they had one, I never would have gotten anything done and it would have taught them to throw a tantrum to get what they want.
