Default etax or ato tax return?

    hi

I thinking this yr I may do it my self and save the $150 I spend on my accountant.

I played around with etax (did not submit) and also w the ato etax amd my refund estimate was so different beyween the two.
etax asks for a fee where as ato is free.
qhay does everyone else use?.. and how long does does it take to be depositted in to your account?

    tia

I think you will find etax, downloaded from the ATO site is what most people use. As pp said above return time is generally within 2 weeks.

Don't use the other etax. You will have to pay a fee if you do. The name of the site is just a dodgy way to suck people in. They think it's the etax everyone uses then end up having to pay a fee.

My dad is a retired accountant and he does my tax on the ATO etax site. Never had an issue and the refund is often quicker than 2 weeks.

The only benefit of an accountant is they often know about things that you can claim, that you might not otherwise. If you have a pretty simple tax return (PAYG with no major deductions) then you can probably do it yourself.

The etax thing is so easy to use, I use it every year for mine and my partners taxes.

Same. Mil is an accountant and she is constantly updated on the new claiming rules.
Your accountant fees are usually tax deductable.

I've always downloaded etax from the ato website. I wasn't aware there was a different version that charges a fee.

Dfs tax is pretty straight forward so I've never had an issue. When I was working same thing. We get our return within a fortnight.

Etax is actually an online accountant, they charge a fee because they are actually a person lodging on your behalf. Also, accountant fees are tax deductable, so last years fee will be a part of your return.

Yep, it's legit in that sense but the name itself is so misleading. My old boss got sucked in, as have many others.
If you have a simple and straight forward tax return, you might as well do it yourself. There is no benefit in paying someone to do it on your behalf.
