    Default Christening gift

I've just been made godmother to my dear friend's little boy. Unfortunately I won't be attending the ceremony, which is interstate, but I do want to send him a special gift. Does anyone have any suggestions? Money is kind of tight at the moment, too ...

Is the family religious? If so a little silver or gold cross you can find for under $50 to go on a chain.
a baby brooch; a silver/tin money box engraved with a sweet message; a special child's story book that you can write a dedication inside; a little figurine e.g Peter rabbit sitting on a little mirror that you engrave

I agree we got a little gold cross on a chain for our god son. But we also got a little dog tag thing that we engraved "forever loved" and his name and our names on it.

When we Christened our kids, we got those little pewter and silver things to put the 1st tooth and 1st curl into, a certificate holder, gorgeous candles with their names and dates of the ceremony.. Bunnykins dinner sets, photo frames, all stuff like that.
Most of these things really aren't very expensive either..
