Default Tww in first ivf cycle

Hi, Im in my first cycle on day 2 of my TWW...think this will be the longest 2 weeks of my life! We commenced our IVF journey a couple of months ago but my first transfer was cancelled due to Hyper Stimulation which led to 2 days in hospital. When we arrived this month to have our transfer (2day) we were advised our first embryo didn't survive so they thawed another and it was a 3 cell. Our F then advised us to thaw another to take our chances from 25% to 40%. We had 2 transferred and are now waiting anxiously!! My husband and I do not have infertility problems but he had a vasectomy 3 years ago and we opted for IVF as opposed to vasectomy reversal. Does anyone know the percentage of success rates for twins in an IVF cycle where fertility is not a problem??

I may be pulling this from thin air, but remembering from my paperwork with two transferred I think it's about 56% chance of twins - but a lot depends on your age.

I know with IVF/ICSI and only transferring one embryo there's a 5% chance of twins because of the small "fault line" created when injecting the sperm into the egg may encourage it to split.

In a standard pregnancy with no assistance or drugs of any kind there's only 0.4% of twins - so any form of ART significantly increases this chance.

    Good Luck

Hi Arlais, wow 56%, Im happy with that I am 39 and DH is 42, twins would be great but really even one bub would make us over the moon. Have you just started your cycle on the 1st? Sending the best of luck and keeping everything crossed for you

I will have to dig out the info booklet I found it in to check for you, it has a table of stats regarding multiples.

I'm 28 (DH is 40 with 2 sons from his first marriage) so they'll only put 1 embryo back in per cycle for me. I'm basically fine reproductively, but DH's vasectomy reversal didn't work as well as we had hoped which is why we need some help. I just started jabbing a couple of days ago, so I'm very new to all this!

wow, we are in exactly the same boat as you guys then...my DH had a vasectomy about 3 years ago and we had to decide between reversal and IVF..taking our ages into account we thought we would have a better chance of having a bub through IVF as they say it can take between 12-18 mths to conceive once reversal is done...I had an antagonist cycle, which one are you on...the jabbing gets easier as the time passes, I found the ups and downs emotionally due to the hormones harder to deal with . Best of luck, hope you get lots of beautiful eggies ...as for me im getting so impatient waiting for my BT 10 days to go and counting

Thanks Emzy I'm on an antagonist cycle - just did gonal f #3 and will start cetrotide soon.

The 56% risk of twins is for a woman under 35 transferring 2 x d5 blasties. This comes down to a 25% chance of twins if you're 35 - 39. My clinic will only pop one back in for me as they prefer not to have multiples given all the risk that entails.
