I haven't read all the replies but the fact that Mummamia states the song is about 'r a p e' is solely their interpretation of the song .... they just love sensationalism on their site.

Pop culture is out there and you cannot change what is current in the world, but you can control what your kids are exposed to in your home and in your car. When my DS is old enough to understand I will play age appropriate radio stations and CD's and expose him to a variety of music, but video hits will not be allowed in our home.

I don't think kids these days are given an opportunity to listen to a broad range of music, pop is ok in moderation and when screened, but play them some Jazz, some orchestra, some 70's, even some heavy metal..... but show them that there is more out there than degrading pop music. Good music is good for the soul!

I didn't read Mia Freedman's article - I don't think it sounds like rape either.

But, when he calls the girl a ***** - it isn't the word I object to- heck I use it all the time. It is the intent. He is saying it to degrade and objectify women. He also calls her a hoe, we all know what that means. Sure, some of you may think it is ok to be called an animal, to be degraded, and that him saying he is going to tear her **** in half is sexy or whatever. That is your prerogative, it doesn't make it not sexist though.

Heck -he even says it is sexist! And that he made it sexist on purpose.

I have since had a look at the real uncensored video clip. It is actually fairly amusing - I think they must think it is quite clever, It isn't. Apart from the models being almost completely naked, he has "Robin Thicke has a big d*ck" written in balloons on it. Just totally bizarre.

It doesn't sound like anal rape to me. Or any sort of rape. I think Mia Freedman had a bone to pick and read into however she pleased, to suit her agenda.

I think the song is pervy, and yeah, it's about being nasty and dirty and whatnot... but plenty of people engage in hair-pulling, slapping, dirty-talk etc in loving, consensual relationships. It's hardly rape.

The song was a suggestion from Robin Thicke's wife anyway... I doubt she would be all, "Hey father of my children... how about you write a song about anal rape and sing it with your mates?"

I can't say much about that song because it's one of the many that gets turned down when I hear it.

The one that got me was lolita by the veronicas. I'm sure a lot of people don't know the book/movie.

It sounds like blah blah blah blurred lines good girl (high pitch annoying cr@ppy voice) blah blah blah 1st time I've heard it. Not a fan.
My son occasionally gets fond of catchy annoying pop songs.that he likes to sing 5 hundred times over I cannot stand that stupid gangham style for this reason. So I gave him We're a happy family tribute to the Ramones to listen to instead. Much much better very thankful no longer wanting to stick corks in my ears to rid the horrid teeny bopper sounds

Edit. I don't find the film clip for blurred lines very suited to young kids viewing bit it could be worse

Yes although I think the song is pretty grosse and totally dont want any man to offer to do.. that.. to me i also personally dont think it is about rape.. Mia Freedman makes a lot of great points and I do love what she does mostly, but sometimes I find her to cross the line from feminism into something closer to prudish.. not sure if others feel that way too?

Right, so I've never heard this song, only read the lyrics. I've just listened to the song on YouTube.

It's f*****g s**t! Ignoring the lyrics for a moment, they are just foul. But the song itself is just...f*****g s**t! If this is the drivvel that passes as "music" these days, then what does that say about the youths listening to it!?

Utter, utter drivvel. Thank goodness my ears aren't subjected to that tripe. I'm just sorry I can't unhear what I just heard. Music? That? ROFL 'sif.
