    Default Handmade baby shower gifts

Hi everyone - I wanted to get the opinions of some mums re handmade baby shower gifts.

I'm quite a crafty person and I'm getting into quilting at the moment. I have heaps of patterns for baby quilts, bibs and burp cloths (I think that is what they are called). What would you like to receive as a gift for bub?

I've not had a bub yet, so I'm not sure what people would like...

I would have loved a quilt as you can keep it and tell bubs about it when older!

My MIL makes cot quilts for all of our friends bubs. They are beautiful and can be used for in the cot or on the floor. All our friends have loved them!!

I have given all mine and DH's nieces and nephews (8 in total) hand made quilts. They all seemed to appreciate the personal touch and years later the quilts are still being used.

I am having my baby shower tomorrow and I would bemore than happy to receive something handmade. In fact I will be grateful for anything that I receive.

I love handmade gifts I have a great collection I use in my studio, and look forward to some I know I receive when bub is born!
However I have some really ungrateful friends and family members who want " real gifts" they don't appreciate the time, cost and effort handmade items take.
For example a cousin, gave back a crochet pram set - blanket, foot muff, matching outfit to her mother because she didn't want it, which I think is terribly rude!

A friend of mine made a mobile for my DS's cot. She designed, cut and sewed little animals out of felt, stuffed them and hung them on a mobile. I adored it and will be using again if we are lucky enough to conceive again.

I would love a homemade gift so much more thoughtful ( not saying store bought aren't thoughtful) but knowing someone went to the trouble of making you something themselves just means a little more

Do more quilts!! That photo you posted the other day was awesome

My only advice is to be discerning in how much time you commit to handmade projects for people who may not appreciate them. I've been burned a few times putting hours and hours of work into projects, only to see them treated like they are some $2 crap from Bali.

I think *most* people genuinely love handmade stuff, but I've got one friend who will definitely only be getting shop-stuff from me from now on...I honestly think her perception was that I was being a tight-*ss by making her baby something instead of buying a pressie! I was devo.
