Default Circumcision south west of Brisbane

    Hi all,

My wife is pregnant with twin boys (due in about 2 months) and we've decided we want to get them both circumcised. We're in Stanthorpe (Near the Qld/NSW) border and are looking for a doctor either in Toowoomba or Brisbane/Gold Coast to do them. Can anyone suggest which one is the best and the approximate cost?

Dr Russell from Russell's Medical Centre. (google for information on procedure etc). are the most highly recommended. they also do the plastibell procedure. I have had two sons done there and was very happy. Approx cost was about $700.

This link has the contact details of several doctors in you area. It's well worth calling around to get prices of different doctors, as they can vary substantially despite using the same procedure.

hi, perhaps your babies are already done but others might find this useful. I've been searching the Toowoomba area and this is the info I've found so far: Dr Husskinsen at St Andrew's performs circumcisions on babies up to 6 months the cost is about $270 and then there is a medicare rebate of around $100. No dr's referral required. He only does it every second Wednesday so best to book quickly if you want to try to get it done before baby becomes more aware.

(Edit to add: Dr West at the Toowoomba medical and dental clinic -corner of James and West st - $220 before medicare rebate. Need to have a consultation prior which would be free as they bulk bill. Biggest problem with this clinic is the wait time as you can't book an appointment and the whole world starts lining up for appointments an hour before they even open. You can not make an appointment with a specific dr until 15 minutes before they start work. He also only does them on Wednesdays), ** Update to Edit: We used Dr West recently, while the circumcision appears to have been performed properly, we were kept waiting for an hour then it felt like it was done in haste and therefore without any real compasion for our baby and we as parents were treated like idiots who should "just go for a walk" while the proceedure was done. My baby was distressed for considerable time afterwards, this was very far from the calm compasionate manner that the Iranian dr in the UK did our first sons. Aftercare advice was also outdated and the nurse even tried to verbally prevent me from putting vasoline on the nappy to reduce friction I would therefore suggest not using this Dr, I would rather have spent the extra $200 having it performed in Brisbane by a caring Muslim Dr.

The only other Toowoomba dr I found via the internet was Dr Lambie but don't bother as he's quite old and no longer performs circumcision.

There are loads of Doctors in Brisbane but some a quite expensive (we got a quote of $1000! from one and $450 from another) plus you have the extra expense of petrol to get there. Edit to add: I would now say that this is a better option than using a Toowoomba dr.
