Sage I'm going ok with feeding. Still some discomfort/pain at times. Ava had a great sleep last night from 11pm until 4:00am, fed and then woke after 8am. I got 4hrs of solid sleep and felt amazing this morning. That's the longest stretch of sleep she's had. Last week she slept for 5hrs but I woke her to feed her because I thought I couldn't let her go any longer and because my boobs felt like they were going to explode. I don't know what I'll do if she sleeps longer or when she's sleeping through. Maybe it adjusts accordingly...

Well done on getting a solid 5hrs sleep. It's amazing how different you feel with a stretch of sleep.

    How is everyone else going?

For those of you bf do you or have you used a bf pillow? I'm looking into getting The Milk Bar Pillow to help support my back and position Ava properly. Just curious if anyone else uses a pillow.

Madam has just fed and is on her way to sleep so I'm going to get some sleep. Here's hoping she has a good sleep.

Sage, that's great that your little man is sleeping so well. Hopefully it continues.

Maybee, that's great that Ava gave you a good stretch of sleep.

I've heard good things about the milk bar and am thinking I might get one. I'd be interested to hear people's opinions though.

AFM, I've had a rough few days. Sienna lost 50g in a day, so they wouldn't let us go home yesterday. I had the midwife from hell, who told me numerous times, that I was starving my baby and suggested that we're going to give her hypothermia. Needless to say, there were lots of tears.

As of yesterday, we BF, then top up with formula, and then express, 4 hourly. They have given me motilium to improve my supply.

Sienna has gained 120g since yesterday, and is extremely settled. Hopefully we can go home today.

How long does fluid retention last after birth??

    2. Did your GP also test for glandular fever (CMV virus) and EBV (Epstein-Barr)?

It is normal to have a slightly lowered white cell count with and after a virus, yes, but is very non-specific and can mean other things.

3 months is a long time to have a sore throat, and even though some viruses can hang around for a while (so you may still have persistence of viral particles, causing ongoing inflammation), it still warrants further investigation I believe. It may be as simple as a chronic viral pharyngitis, but it needs to be investigated.

Ask for a referral to an ENT Specialist. They can have a look with a nas-endoscope (camera through your nostril into back of throat), and they may request some imaging (eg. CT head and neck).

That is what I would do. Hope that helps.

    J xx.

Thanks J, at least it gives me something to go on! My doc did mention an ENT guy but for some reason he wasn't interested in requesting it when he saw my results. Frustrating.
The throat swab was entirely normal from what I can tell. I have had glandular fever in the past though. I'll have to ask him about EBV. Thank you so much for the suggestions, he just seemed completely unconcerned which I get but at the same time I'm SO sick of this sore throat! Sometimes it's swollen enough that Panadol gets sick on the way down.

Lil Smurfy - Some midwives have no bedside manner and don't realise how they come across. You are doing everything you can for Sienna. That's a great weight gain overnight. I hope you get to go home today.

Re the Milk Bar I'm trying to source one second hand, they retail for approx $70 brand new.

Can't help you re fluid retention sorry.

Ava is often wide awake and a bit whingy after feeding at 8pm. She seems tired but doesn't want to sleep, she just likes to be cuddled. Last night she finally drifted off to sleep after 9pm. I decided to wake her at 11pm to feed her as I was wanting to go to bed. She fed and was back to sleep by 11:30 and slept through until 6:30am!! I woke up just after 5am and dozed on and off until she woke up. I wish I could just go back to sleep but I lay there listening and waiting for her to wake up. Anyhow it was nice to have more than 2hrs sleep at a time.

Thanks! I'm finding Axle drinks way less of this formula, sometimes even getting him to drink 100mls is a struggle, going from drinking 200mls no worries of the one before I'm not sure if its because its thicker or he doesn't like it? God I have no idea!
    How much does Vale drink?

Anywhere from 100 mls to 160 mls. When she started though it was on the lower end of the scale. Just feed more often if your worried

    Eko...
I had a frazzled-mother-moment; EBV actually IS glandular fever, so you need to ask about CMV serology. Sorry!
But definitely ask directly for ENT Referral.

    How was everyone's weekends??

We have a busy weekend coming up with the in laws coming to visit, yay! I will be able to go out on the boat fishing, the first time since I was about 4 months pregnant... Leaving MIL home with the kiddies! Lol! DH are also planning to go out to dinner alone, yes! We have to make the most of these opportunities as we don't have any family close by so don't get the chance to go out at all.

I'm also playing my first game of netball tonight since last season, I'm praying it all stays together down there lol!

Sage: Yay for a good stretch of sleep though your full boob sounds painful!

Maybee: Good that you got 4hrs of sleep, amazing the things we celebrate lol

Lil Smurfy: Hopefully you get to go home soon. You are not starving your daughter, some midwives need a new career. Not sure on fluid retention my swelling went down a lot just after birth but I still have a little and some of the pains I had when pregnant.

Eko: I hope something helps your throat soon.

maybee: gorgeous photo of Ava and yay for sleep.

Choccie: good luck at netball tonight. Yay for fishing and going out for tea. I love fishing really should go soon.

    J: Lucy is adorable.

FTM: How are you and Vale today?

Hi Fel, Nila, Swizzly, LilPetal hope you are all well.

River was so grizzly last night she just would not settle. Eventually at 11 I just gave up wrapped her and put her in the bassinette and went and did dishes. I came back and she had grizzled herself to sleep and slept until 7am! I also had her weighed today and at 5w4d she is 4090g so has finally hit the 4kg mark
