Default **spinoff** Have you ever changed your views?

Have you ever changed your views based on input from others on BH?

If so what was the topic and what changed your mind?

Absolutely!! The passion people on here have for breastfeeding made me determined to breastfeed, whereas before I didn't really care whether it was breast or bottle. I also thought baby carriers were weird (who puts a baby in a backpack and wears it on the front? Lol) but seeing how normal it was to everyone on here made me think about getting one and now I love it.

Nope it hasn't changed my mind. Opened up my thought process and makes me try to see things from their point of view sure but no hasn't changed my final view on things....yet.

Not from here, but I'm not so set on any one thing that I can't see another side and choose different options depending on what suits at the time. My views on abortion have recently changed. Well not changed, I've always thought that in extreme circumstances I'd be ok with it, but had never given thought to what that meant before now. Life is ever changing, we need to do what we need to do to ensure we have health and happiness!

Yep, on gay marriage. I'm now for it because whatever my personal views about marriage in general don't really matter when you think about the emotional side (which I wasn't thinking about).

Two off the top of my head:

    1) SAHM's shouldn't use daycare.
    - shortly after the thread I did a backflip and agree with SAHP's using daycare 2-3 days per week. I can't remember what specifically changed my mind. I don't think I fully considered the socialization/special needs benefits beforehand and after hearing everyone's stories did.

    2) Asylum seekers
Now dont get too excited....I haven't done a full backflip, just a 90 degree turn. I know some Asylum seekers are frauds and conning the system. And this was the viewpoint I was seeing everything from. Some people threw in stats about the percentage of cases that are fraud (low) and threw in a few personal stories of hardship and this helped de-fog the glasses I was viewing the situation through.

Sometimes I won't have a very strong POV on a topic, and reading through a thread I can read one post & think how right they are, then two posts down read something completely the opposite, yet still agree with them-by the end I don't even know where I stand!! Haha

Nothing that I can think of...
I like to think that I consider empirical evidence where it's relevant to an issue, and consider different peoples' points of view when it's not so relevant. That being the case, I feel I've got a well-thought-out basis for most of my beliefs.

That said, no doubt there are things I haven't considered in too much depth - or that I'm missing certain perspectives on - where hearing different points of view could change my mind. Just don't think it's happened on here yet.

MCNs. I scoffed when mum asked when I first fell pregnant if I wanted her to buy me some nappies. Boy has my tune changed!

And not a change of opinion, but I strongly believe I would have struggled to have my VBAC without all the wonderful passionate and informed advocates on BH.
