    Default Prep numbers

I'm wondering about prep numbers (first year primary school, aged 5).
We've heard lots of good things about the primary school next to us, however there will be 27 in a class. That just seems so high. (Some schools that I'm not zoned in have around 22)
I work in highschool and my highest number is 22-24.
Anyone experienced a prep with high numbers? Should I be concerned?

DS had 17 in his Prep class last year, plus a teacher aid for 4 days (5th day was music, sport, library, computers etc) and he has 21 in his Year One class this year.

There are about 52-54 preps in total and 3 prep classes at DS's school.. I think there's 17 in his actual class.

Ds has 7 in his class. But it's combined with 1 and 2 so there is 23 all up

I think that is way too high OP. For a state school it should be around 16-24 in a prep classroom. Personally I think 16-20 is optimum anything above 20 becomes challenging for the teacher. I recently spent time in a prep class of 24 and thought I would not want my DS in that grade.

Is it 27 just from one intake at the start of the year?

That does seem very high. In SA, JP class numbers are capped, and I thought it was in the low 20s, but can't find the info atm.I would be wanting there to be an extremely experienced teacher with those numbers...
