That was a bit odd. I didn't see anyone boasting...?

The only thing I've seen that's revolting is your rudeness, in what has been a friendly thread.

    Oh Lol's, what a cracker!

Look if I ever manage to make a half decent cake I'll be boasting my **** off, because it will make up for the completely sh1tty catastrophes or bakery cakes I've produced in shame every other year!

Nope no boasting, only me saying I make sucky cakes .... and I did actually say I DON'T think I'm a better mum? Meh some just want a reason to have a fight, and clearly bday cakes have become a contentious issue!

I had a big first birthday last year for my daughter and this year I will be having another big party... My mother was never one to throw big parties for us and I wish she did, which is why I do it for my princess

Should I link to my FB album of mum made birthday cakes now? Or would that be revolting and needy?

I don't understand the issue even if someone was proud of their achievements, isn't it normal to show creative things off? I think sadly often it's only not ok to be proud if said person also happens to be a mother (who should be spending every waking moment with her child and not having you know hobbies and fun stuff).

I remember the year she goes "mum, this icing tastes like... Butter!"

Right before the 'butter cream' took it upon itself to kamikaze slide right off the cake. For shame.

But one of my friends grew up around the corner from me and her family's business went bust, so one year they were living like anyone else and doing normal everyday things then the next year they struggled to buy food, yet every child for every birthday was allowed to invite 3 or 4 friends from school and they'd have a game of pass the parcel, a home cooked meal and some cake. There would be balloons on the fence and in the house as well. It was very low key but still something to mark the special day. I went to all her parties as kids from the time we were 3 years old, she came to mine as well, and we both remember the excitement of it being a birthday party more than anything. I'm sorry you didn't have that
Dh has promised me a huge 40th with a band and everything it will be my first ever birthday party.... Good things come to those who wait

If you have a talent flaunt it I say, so if you can make an awesome cake you should brag about it and show pics!

As for the cost of parties, I do not add up how much we spend every second year (time for a party this year and I doubt that I will get any change from $1,000) and I throw the party that my son wants and that I can afford.

I am sure that I have been judged in the past but meh I do it because I can and want to.

I have never judged another party for a child, I have often judged an adults party though, but never a kids party or the parent throwing it.
