I have a Christmas account, and this is my spending money. $50/fortnight, and its a tidy sum at Christmas.

Its only a problem if you can't get what you want cos they sold out in August in the pre Christmas sales

After looking at the kmart catalogue, I understand why there's no xmas layby now. There's not much in it, mainly their own branded toys.

Hope target and big w one's are better.

I don't do it for the financial side but the convenience of having it taken care of early and avoiding large crowds at Christmas time.
Last year I got a swing set and the year before a trampoline and it was so convenient having them delivered to my house.

Went for a walk through Kmart yesterday and while they have a lot of stuff and at low prices - most of it is their own brand toys. I'm not bagging them but the Kmart brand toys I've bought my kids have always been the first to break.
A stroll through Target proved to be a lot better - they had many, many good things going on sale. They were just preparing, aisles and aisles of toys for my sons age group (just turning 1) and then for the older kids. I don't know what the prices will be that they put out but I'm impressed just with the selection. Holding out for BigW of course.

And again, its about the storage for us too. We have no space to hide Christmas toys for 7 kids and 3 grown up kids (the dads lol)

No, but you can always do the shopping online and get it delivered to your door.

I have usually shopped mainly at kmart for all my childrens and nieces and nephews Christmas presents. I am sure I have used only Kmart for the last 2 years and I spend a lot of money. But I can manage to spend a lot because I have longer to pay it off. I am not someone who is great at saving however I am FANTASTIC at paying bills and treat a layby like a bill. Also it was convenient for me to shop in the one place, do one pick up etc. Sad that they won't get my business this year but Big W or Target will I love Christmas laybys!!!

Yeah this. We don't have a kmart nearby anyway, i always do my xmas layby at target or bigw. But it isn't so much the cost - we will normally put down $500 in lay buys and pay $400 straight away. It's that they hold it to xmas and I can mentally strike it off the list and not have to store it in the spider riddled shed for the next 6 months
