I wonder if enough people complain if they'll reinstate it?

I understand they have issues every year, but canceling the 6 month lay by will hurt them, if the other stores keep it.

If the prices are staying the same between now and Christmas why can't people just do their layby in a few parts? Works out the same doesn't it?

They usually have a lot of extra items during the toysale that aren't stocked during the rest of the year.

I think it's a huge mistake on kmarts part.

I agree with this! They have stated that instead of one big sale they plan to keep the same range and prices for the rest of the year, essentially giving customers a 6 month sale, therefore allowing you to do separate laybys as your child's interests change.

Personally I hate the 6 month layby as I have no idea what DD will want or like in 6 months so instead I save for 6 months and shop through December when there's more sales on anyway!

Im pretty sure their point is that basically the Christmas sale situation will be ongoing, just the length of layby is different?

I don't really see the big deal...

Can't you just put the same amount of money away each week and then buy the toys later on towards christmas? It would be no different financially to having to pay off the lay-buy each week.

Agreed, I remember working target layby for about 8christmases, the "outback area" was huge. The difference with Christmas laybys was we could replace the stock so people still got their goods. With the 6month layby a lot of the stock was unavailable after the catalogues finished.

Maybe target and big w will go the same way?

The selling point of the "Christmas lay by" for me was not having to hide the presents at home, DD still believes in Santa and we don't have a lot of places to hide stuff long term.
