    Default Old wive's tales....

Just wondering how many old wive's tales we can come up with regarding child rearing...

My family (grandmother, aunt and cousin) have been repeatedly telling me not to hold my baby for long because holding them makes their bones/body sore and they need to lie on their own in a cot.....

my aunts and mother thought you had to follow the clock. Bath baby at 10am, baby sleeps between 12 and 1, feed every four hours, that sort of thing. My mum didnt follow the clock with her children, but she did remember all the 'rules'. Other old saying, 'spare the rod and spoil the child." 'children should be seen and not heard' . Marie.

I've always wondered about the "don't play in the rain cause you'll catch a cold". I though you get sick from germs not water.

My 89 year old grandmother is constantly telling me not to let DS kidneys get cold because he will get cancer.... WTF! She also told me to feed him mashed potato from a week old. She is lovely but has some warped ideas.

    * the wind will change and your face will stay that way
    * if you eat the crust your hair will go curley

Not to gross anyone out but hookworm larvae do go through skin so walking barefoot where dogs have pooed can actually give you worms!
