my dog is horrible

I cannot handle our dog

She is 10 months old, a Beagle. She chews EVERYTHING - she ate my daughter's plastic trike!
She rips clothes off the line and drags them through the mumd.
She jumps on the car and scratches it, she even got underneath the car and ripped out the wires and now my taillights don't work

SHe is DH's dog before we got her we talked very long and very har about getting another dog (we have a 6 year old Beagle who isn't much trouble), and now he isn't taking any responsibility. I have had enough... obedience training etc... is out at the moment - I just don't know what to do!!!

Has anyone else got a horrible dog? Please tell me I'm not the only one with a dog this bad...........

our Corgi x jack russell is a little s#*t somedays i get to the point where im ready to take her back to the pound ( where we got her from) but i know that i never could.

We have had her since she was 4 weeks old so she was my first baby really spolied until DS was born and then she didnt have all the attention..
She used to chew everything until i brought her a KONG great value so now when ever i can see that she is gonna be a destructive i just put some ham and cheese in there and melt it and she will spend hours trying to get it all out...

She barks constanly
She is really over protective of Me and DS
She even chewed up the carpet in our house and the door frame.

All i can say is for us it hasnt got better and we have had her for 4 years....

They use beagles in Customs sniffing out contraband. They can't be too hard to train then and they must have some amount of brains ottherwise they wouldn't use them I guess???????

Well our dog's a sweetie, but I didn't think so for the first few months. Having a small baby to deal with and household stuff, it was just too hard having to cope with a stray that kept jumping the fence and taking off in the wee hours of the morning, so that I'm running round the neighbourhood in my way too short nighty yelling 'Mojo! Moooojjjooooo! Mojo, come!' for all the world to gander at. Not to mention the washing being dragged off the line and half the backyard dug up.

I told the hubby, you wanted the damn thing, you train her and fix the damn fence, clean up her poo EVERY DAY and take her to the park EVERY DAY and if this doesn't happen asap.... she's GONE! Well, it happened thank goodness, cos I really didn't mean it - you can't just adopt a dog from the RSPCA and give it back cos it's getting out, esp when we knew she was a stray in the first place! ANd she was also around 10 months and still very flighty and excitable (still is actually, but better behaved in general now )LOL But I said it like I meant it and it worked for me. Hubby had to put in the hard yards with her though, training her properly and getting into better habits walking her and socialising her with other dogs. She was just bored, but hubby wanted her he had to deal with her.

Dunno what I would have done if he hadn't thankfully we'll never have to watch me squirm on that one....

That sounds like a very annoying situation.

Does the dog get much positive attention? Obviously it must be getting yelled at for all the naughty things it does? Im not sure what your routine is with the pet/s but I gues if you dont already - spend lots of time with it and they dont respond to smacking or yelling very well. Short snaps of the word no that sound similar to a barking dog could help him to understand what he is doing is wrong.

Pets are great and they only want attention (and food, ha ha). I hope he turns good soon.

Yeah, they get walked almost everyday.

Beagles aren't that hard to train - we have an older Beagle who was a nightmare as a pup but I did a year of obedience training with him and now he's perfect.

I don't have the time with the naughty one - DH has the time but can't be bothered to get off his **** and do it.

Shanilee - she isn't getting enough positive attention - no Bit it's so hard when every single time I look outside something else is destroyed. Most of our garden is gone. I guess she needs more attention but it's just imossible for me at the moment. I' so angry at DH - he promised he would look after this dog, and he hasn't

Mojogal - I might try the "fine we'll get rid of her if you can't look after her thing... but I highly doublt that would get DH off his ****, and I don't want to get rid of her or give empty threats! aaargghhh!!!

Your dog is a puppy, it will grow out of this behaviour by 1.5 - 2yrs.

Just be persistant.

I love my dogs no matter what damage they have done to anything I own.

actually they are perfect for that job because what makes beagles seem 'dumb' and hard to train is the fact that their entire brain is geared to follow their nose! so you can have the best behaved dog in the world til it smells something interesting and its brain switches to hunting mode, and its off. My great uncle used to breed them in the UK as hunting dogs (appaling sport, but i digress). They are the perfect sniffer/hunter dog but as pets they can be very frustrating coz teaching them to use their brains and not their nose can be hell.

I vote he gets off his a*** or sadly the dog might have to go if you dont have the time to do what needs to be done with pup.
