Just checking as well - are you sure it's a cracked nipple?
If you haven't had issues before with this pain, watch out for shooting pains in between feeds etc. this could indicate thrush. I know when I had thrush the pain at first attachment was excruciating.
If so, you can have thrush in your nipple before it is visible in bubs mouth.
Use the daktarin oral gel on your nipple instead of canestan cream. It does the same job, but you don't need to wash off, and bub will get a but when feeding from you too.

Will try to remember to come back with the name later.
That would be awesome if you can, thanks.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Unfortunately expressing isn't a great option, as I can only get 40-50ml at best which isn't enough for a full feed.

So is Sudocream and/or paw paw better than Lansinoh?

Moongazer- he's my 2nd bub. Apart from tenderness after a feed, no I'm not getting shooting pain between feeds.

However both he and my DS1 had tongue-ties that were snipped, so the LC says on the inside they may not be attaching correctly each time. I had no issues with DS1 and the first 11wks with DS2 were ok too though.

ETA - DS2 had his snipped 3 times as it was severe. But haven't had issues until now.

Crap, I just googled the symptoms and I think this is what we have, thanks for the tip.

DS2 has the milk looking spots on his inside cheeks (I thought it was just excess spew because he does that all day) but no happy rash. I have 2 deep obvious cracks visible so just assumed it was this alone.

Another trip to the doctor then!!!

You can get daktarin oral from the pharmacy without script. It should respond very quickly if its thrush. Good luck, thrush is agony! Also give your breast shield parts a good boil.

Thanks Chew - I just went down brought some of the gel to try, as our doctor is away for 2wks.

The pain is definitely agony, you're right! But it does fade after 3-4mins once he's latched. Does that still sound like thrush?
