Default Single mum. Parenting payments/youth allowance

    Hi everyone,

My best friend is a single mum and is receiving parenting payments from centrelink. She is about to start full time study, and was wondering if she would qualify for youth allowance as well?

she is 22, so her age ticks the box. Some people have said you don't receive both payments while on single mums payments?

any information would be great, we have looked on the website but cant fully understand and im sure she will ring them up soon, so just if you know any informs would be great.

As far as I know she will only receive single parenting (and ftb and ccb etc) but not youth allowance as well.

No she won't get youth allowence but will be eligble for pes (pensioner education supplement). It's $62.40/fn for FT study.

She will also get a one off $208 education entry payment when she commences her course.

Something else for your friend to consider is if using childcare, she can apply for JET which will reduce the cost of childcare to $1 per hour. She will be entitled to the 50% ccr rebate too.

no you can only receive one or the other. She will actually get more money on single parent pension than youth allowance.

If you are on youth allowance you get $1000 at the start of each semester. Don't think this applies if you are on PP.

No she won't get both, as previous people have said she'll get an extra $60 per fortnight and will likely be eligible for JET childcare

Nope, would say not. I have been studying FT for the past year and a half.
I got the $208 payment at the begining of each year/each course.
