Default NT result - heart problem?

So I had my NT scan done today and although the nasal bone appears to be perfect the doctor said the amount of fluid was borderline (I can't remember the exact measurement that I saw on screen but I believe it was just over 3mm) and that it is not likely to mean DS but rather could indicate heart problems. I am going back at 15w to have a scan done on bubbas heart.

She said that she's seen this and quite often the heart ends up being fine.

    Has anyone else had this?

I am still waiting for my official results as I only had the scan and bloods done today.

Is it a pericardial effusion?? My bestie had this at 12wks, by 16wks it was gone. Stay strong and good luck.

I think replied to your post on fb but can't remember so will share here..

I am in exactly the same boat. My nt fluid was a little high so they recommended i have a foetal echocardiogram done. We were already booked for one as my DH has multiple heart issues and is very lucky to be alive. We had a foetal echo with DD then another echo done at 8 weeks old and she is fine

My OB said that even with a slightly higher nucal fold the chances of a heart condition are still low (like 1:300 or something). When determining a heart condition, the nuchal fluid result is only a "soft marker" - ie: many babies with a heart condition had a higher nucal fold measurement but not many babies who have a high nuchal reading have a heart condition.

Hope that makes sense and brings some reassurance. Most likely they will wait until your morph scan results then if there's any issues send for an echo.

The doctor didn't give it a name just said the fluid may indicate a heart problem. I am booked in to go back for a fetal echo scan at 15 weeks (in 2 weeks or so).
Thanks for your response it makes me feel a bit better, I just hope my blood work is ok too.

So you had this with DD who is fine or you're having it with the bub you're expecting now?

Hiya, my DS1 had a NT of over 7mm at 12 weeks and a 1:5 risk of DS. CVS and amnio ended up clear and after scans at 20 and 24 weeks we finally got the all clear. After chromosome problems apparently cardiac problems are the next biggest cause of NT enlargements.
Hopefully what I've written makes some sense. Good luck for the next scan.

Me? Having it with bubs now. My DD had a smaller nuchal fold but we did the Echo anyway due to DHs conditions as they are hereditory. The higher fold this time in my mind just confirmed we need to definitely do the echo this time Mine is in 2 weeks too, at 19 weeks at my Morph scan (had to wait till 22 weeks last time, that was killer!!!)

Fx everything wil lbe fine for both of us!!
