Twosouls.... yes, I remembered that one of yours was from a frozen egg, so it does seem odd that they're now saying they're both from fresh eggs??? Never mind, I guess we have to just put the misunderstanding down to all those drugs we've been taking!!

Optimistic Aussie.... yes, those are the general waiting rules for most clinics, however, I know IVFA will let you do it quicker than that, but you have to sign special forms absolving the clinic of responsibility etc. I asked my FS that at our last consultation, and he said that wasn't a problem at all. I wonder though, if they have no problem doing it for those with "time" issues, as I'm 40, but perhaps it may be different if you are 30 and still have plenty of time on your side??? Actually I think it's more of a case sometimes if you insist, you can get your own way:-))

AFM.... I've been quiet on here, patiently waiting out the time til my next cycle. I've had a dreadful head and chest cold for the past week, and still sitting in pyjamas at the moment feeling sorry for myself, but at least I'm glad to be sick this week rather than next week when I'll start the new cycle.

Twosouls.... I'm doing a short cycle this time, so will call the clinic on Day 1 of AF. AF is due on Saturday, and even though she was late last month, all the twinges have been happening on the right days, so I'm thinking she'll be close this time. Not long now.

Still really sick. DH, my family and his family all went to the theatre today, but I had to stay home as still too sick, and no-one wants to hear anyone coughing madly when they've paid big bucks for tickets - hope everyone appreciated that!! A different sister of DH took my ticket :-((

Hi all, thanks everyone for sharing your stories, it does help others researching their options.
I'm looking at contacting a couple of clinics to find out some more details but was hoping people on here might have some info too. I'm looking at finding a clinic that does donor sperm and have a good number of donors to choose from. Looks like IVfA does as I think that's where you guys are? Did you find any others when you researched it?
Im in Victoria, so I think I have nsw and Queensland as an option, but I haven't looked into the feasibility of traveling yet

Maybe Mummy... yes, I'm with IVFA now, as my first clinic doesn't do anonymous donor sperm. I remember the FS saying, you can bring your own donor sperm, and I was, "What? Where am I going to get that from?" She said, just ask some people - oh yeah!! Like that was going to happen!! Anyhow, in NSW the best options for anon donor sperm are with IVFA (3-4 months wait list) and Fertility First (no wait list). I'm presently using donor sperm from IVFA - their list has both Australian donors (mostly Asian backgrounds) and American donors (mostly caucasian backgrounds). I looked at the Fertility First list about a year ago, they get most of their sperm from America too. Both IVFA and FF list had about 20-25 in total to choose from.

I don't know about other states, but I'm sure someone else will give you advice about that soon.

Thanks, that's really helpful info. I can't believe the FS said that!!!
Ok, dumb question, but if FF has no waiting list why does it seem that IVFA is more popular. Does IVFA have better success/service/price/reputation etc ???

Maybe Mummy.... IVFA is a really big group, with numerous clinics in different parts of Sydney, including some BT facilities in outer Sydney areas, which makes travelling times for BTs shorter. My DH and I ended up going with IVFA, as the urologist we needed for DH's mTESE procedure (Dr G) is with IVFA. FF is an independent clinic with its own attached lab. It's fairly small, but seemed to offer most things that IVFA offer. I believe success rates, price etc are comparable between the two. I did lots of research to choose our second clinic - the Sydney clinic with the best IVF success rate was Genea, but they don't do anon donor sperm, so we couldn't go to them. At IVFA you only get three goes with the donor sperm, before going to the bottom of the list again. We've only used the sperm once so far, but if all three goes turn out to be BFNs, then we may consider going to FF so we don't have to wait again for sperm.

Search for some Melbourne threads that might give you some advice on donor sperm there.

    HI Maybe mummy

I know Queensland is a long way away, but I can highly recommend QFG in Queensland. They have clinics in Brisbane and also in lots of regional centres (Toowoomba, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Gold Coast).

They had both American (Xytex) and Australian donors. The donor list from Australia is much smaller than the American, but each time we looked there was always around 20 to choose from. The American is around $1000 for a vial and the Australian is free. We tried two American ones unsuccessfully, but I am currently 34 weeks pg using an anon Australian donor.

By the time we finally realised that we would need donor we had been in the system for over 3 years and had had 1 unsuccessful cycle and two cancelled cycles trying to use DH's sperm. Therefore we never waited for a donor, but I don't know if that was just us or is common at QFG.

Good luck, it's not an easy journey and I still don't know what hurdles this decision will have, but the joy on DH's face as he feels the bub kicking in my tummy is already well worth it.

Thanks DJ Nette and MGC Bertie.
Brisbane isn't out of the question. My sister lives kinda close (lol closer than Melbourne) so if I can't do certain tests from here that would certainly be an option to stay up there.
I haven't doubled checked yet, but I don't think you can get overseas donors in Victoria and since aust donor numbers are low I think that effects the number and waiting lists.
