Default Carers allowance at tax time

Hello I have just been put on the carers allowance for my aspergers son and it all confuses me. I was just wondering if you get a lump sum payment at tax time and if so how much?

You get up to $1600. I have got it for the past 3 years as I'm on the careers allowance as my son has Autism Spectrum Disorder.

You don't have to wait til your tax has been done or do they automatically pay it to you. I just have a few things I have been wanting to get ds for ages and hopefully I can get them for him soon.
